Vallons and Lyons Forest between two Brayonne communes

From La Feuillie and its architectural heritage to the plains and valleys, then on to the forest paths of the Lyons Forest, the largest beech forest in France, this easy walk—bar its length—passes through the splendid panoramic views of Beauvoir-en-Lyons.
This figure-of-eight route can be split into two circular loops of around ten kilometres each.

Description of the walk

Park in the car park on Route du Tronquay, near the La Feuillie community centre.

(S/E) Turn left, pass the town hall, then turn left onto Rue du Centre (D921) towards Nolléval. Follow the road to a car park and continue to its exit.

(1) Turn left onto the Sentier de la Poste, then, as you approach a road, turn left onto the Sente du Richebourg, passing between the fields. Reach Rue de Richebourg, turn right onto it, then, at the junction opposite the bus shelter, turn right onto Route de Morville (D62) for a few metres.

(2) Turn left onto Rue de la Grande Vente and continue to a fork. Follow the road to the right until you reach Route de Nolléval (D921). Head right until you reach thefirst street on the left.

(3) Take this street, Impasse de la Planche, on the left, then, at the farm, let a path branch off to the left and continue along the grassy path between fields and copses. At the bottom of the valley, reach a road, follow it to the right and continue straight on towards Les Mazis, D128. Pass under the high-voltage power lines and find a path below, running parallel to the road.

(4) Take it to the right, then, at the crossroads, follow the path on the left along the edge of the woods, with fields on your right. Continue until you reach a road.

(5) Cross it, take the Route Forestière de la Vierge Marie (signposted on the right), then continue until you come to a path that turns right; ignore this for the moment.

(6) Carry on straight ahead, then follow the bend to the left and continue along this main path for about 1.5 km. You will see a path to the left; turn back to check for the signpost for the Route Forestière de la Vierge Marie.

(7) Continue straight on along the track, ignoring the side paths. You will see houses at the edge of the woods; follow the curve of the track between the fields. You will reach a crossroads.

(8) Head towards the sign for Beauvoir-en-Lyons, pass the houses and continue along this road. Look out for a pond on your left, then find a small lane at the corner of house number 3.

(9) Turn right onto the street called Petite Rue and, at the end of it, head right. Pass the town hall and the church of Beauvoir-en-Lyons on your left (a short detour is recommended), then ignore the alley leading to the cemetery and look for the sign indicating the panoramic view. Follow the path leading there to the left.

(10) Enjoy the panoramic view and spot, amongst other things, Brémontier-Merval Castle, then retrace your steps. Turn right, then immediately turn left onto the D84 and continue to the crossroads at the exit of Beauvoir-en-Lyons.

(11) Cross it and continue straight ahead along the Chemin de la Maison Forestière des Acres. Go through the gate and walk to the 197-metre mark, where the path on the right has a sign for the Route Forestière des Heurts.

(12) Take this path to the right until you reach the bottom of the gentle descent and rejoin the path you took on the way there.

(7) Turn left, then head straight ahead and pass the sign for the Route Forestière de la Vierge Marie. Follow this road until the bend at the edge of the fields. Walk alongside them on your left until you reach the junction you passed on the way there.

(6) Leave the route you have already taken and turn left towards the fields, winding your way along the edge of the forest until the path ends and becomes grassy between the fields. Look out for the high-voltage power lines, walk underneath them and then rejoin the tarmac. Reach a road junction, head left until you reach the corner of No. 40.

(13) Turn right onto a grassy path, pass between the fields and reach a road.

(14) Take this road to the left, pass Place Verte and reach the church on your left (feel free to walk around it). Follow the bend to the left, then you’ll find La Feuillie town hall on your right and Route Du Tronquay on the right, leading to the car park (S/E).

Average satisfaction, we won't be doing this route again. Too much tarmac! About 5 km of tarmac out of 20 km, that's a lot!
In fact, it would be good to include this information on the routes, i.e. the number of kilometres of paved sections.

A wonderful route that I recommend doing in spring: a feast for the eyes with meadows and buttercups! Some beautiful villages bursting with flowers (Beauvoir in particular) and the vast beech forest of Lyons. A route with no particular difficulties.
