Mountain bike andGR®®34Gsignposting

Continue along Rue de l’Église to reach the cemetery.

(1) Take the path that runs alongside the cemetery wall. You are now on theGR®®34G. Follow it and continue along the road up towards Meilars Church, where you leave theGR®® signposting and follow the MTB signposting instead.

(2) Go round the church on the right and follow the path down towards the road.

(3) Turn right, ignore the road branching off to the left and pass close to the Moulin de Lesvoyen.

Off the marked trail
(4) Cross the bridge over the River Goyen and continue climbing, passing Casavoyen.
At the next junction, turn right and pass Keréval.

Yellow markings

(5) After a stream, turn left onto the yellow-marked path. Follow this path, which takes you along a fitness route. Pass a wash house. The path climbs to the left before reaching a road at Stang Irvirn; on your left is a cross and below it a fountain (photo). At the road, turn right.

(6) At the roundabout heading towards Plozévet, take the small road on the left. Follow this road, passing the Kerrest bakery on your right.

(7) At the next three-way junction, turn right and continue to Kervitan farm.

(8) Shortly afterwards, turn left onto a farm track, then right and left again to reach a road, which you take on the right. At the road, turn right and then left to join another road.

(9) At a place called Menez Lamarzin, turn sharply right onto a farm track heading due west. Follow this track, which passes near the Poulguidou pond. At the pond, ignore the path on the right (often impassable). Continue to the small village of Lambabu.

(10) Turn right and take a moment to admire the little village with its chapel and old houses. On leaving the village, turn right and follow the wide stony path leading to the edge of the pond.

(11) Go round the pond on the left (this section can be tricky in winter) and, after the spillway, turn left towards Le Gourbi. At the road, turn right and then left to join another road. Turn right and ignore the first path on the left.

(12) Take the next path on the left, which goes through a wood. At the end, turn right to reach the crossroads you passed on the way there.

(6) Turn left towards the village of Mahalon. Follow this road, which passes the Saint-Pierre Chapel on the right, a playground on the left, and leads to the car park (S/E).

Worth a visit

In the village of Mahalon

Saint-Magloire Church: The old church in Mahalon dates back to the Romanesque period. It was partly rebuilt in 1772 but has retained many architectural features from its original construction, blending Renaissance and Gothic styles.
The church houses one of the earliest Renaissance funerary monuments in Brittany. Set into the north side wall, a ‘niche’ (enfeu) contains the 16th-century monument.

Saint Maudez Fountain: this votive fountain, set within the presbytery grounds, is built over a spring. It is situated 50 metres from the church on the left-hand side heading towards Pont-Croix.

Saint-Pierre Chapel.

Saint-Tugdual Chapel in the hamlet of Lambabu.

On the route:
Poulguidou Pond: “Poulguidou Pond is a remarkable link in the floral and ecological chain connecting wetland and coastal environments with those of the interior.” (Prof. Strullu).

__Hello!

_A lovely walk in terrible weather: wind, rain and cold!
We’ll have to do it again in fine weather; Mahalon seems like a great place for walks! Don’t miss the collection of hydrangeas in summer!
