Park in the car park by the playground on Place du Castet in Campan. This circular route is signposted in yellow in both directions
(S/E) Near the drinking trough, follow the yellow markings to the left, towards the Adour.
(1) Turn right and walk along the leats of the old mills. You’ll reach the concrete footbridge over the Adour, known as the Pont Noir, and cross it.
(2) Turn right onto the “Tour de la Bouche” path and you’ll reach a three-way junction.
(3) Follow the yellow markings for the “Camiera deths Ponts” to the right, towards Saint-Roch. The path runs alongside the Adour, through a beech wood or beneath box trees.
(4) Cross an easy section, with handrails, and continue running parallel to the Adour.
(5) Pass a wide path on your left heading towards Le Teilhet, and head down to the right until you reach a junction (Saint-Roch). Here, a stony path branches off to the right to cross the Adour at the Pont de Capderalanne and join the RD935. Continue straight on, slightly uphill, beneath the beech trees and alongside a low wall. You’ll come to a fork, with a stony path branching off to the right to cross the Adour at the Pont de la Peye and also join the RD935.
(6) Ignore this path and carry on straight ahead.
(7) Pass another path on your left which climbs towards Le Teilhet, and carry on straight ahead to come out onto a track.
(8) Turn right onto it and follow it for about a hundred metres, then turn left onto a slightly steep path (Rimoula). Turn right at the junction and continue to the Arrourets viewpoint: a lovely view of the Pic du Midi de Bigorre and the peaks on the left bank of the Adour. Ideal for a picnic in the mountain pastures before heading back to Campan.
(9) Take the path on the right that leads you back towards the beech forest, and reach the banks of the Adour at the Pont de Manau. This is the end of the connecting path to Sainte-Marie-de-Campan. At present, this route does not allow you to reach the village without taking the departmental road.
(10) Turn back and follow the outward route in the opposite direction to return to Campan (S/E).
