Camiera deras Pistas

A connecting route on the northern side of the valley, from Campan to Galade. In the beech forest, along wide forestry tracks, you’ll discover the springs and streams that supply Campan, Saint-Roch and Galade, but which are also capable of causing significant flooding. From these last two hamlets, you can join the D935 and cross the Adour to reach the Camiera deths Ponts and return to Campan via the other side of the valley. Yellow signposting, with estimated times at intervals.

Description of the walk

The starting point is on Chemin Layris, near the Campan cemetery. There is no car park, but you can park at the side of the roads or tracks, provided you do not block access. Car parks are available in the village.

(S/E) Walk past the cemetery and follow a wide track overlooking the gardens.

(1) Continue straight on along a small tarmac road called Chemin du Pé du Hourquet.

(2) At the end of the tarmac road, turn right onto a path that climbs steeply to a water intake, then winds its way between barns and a stream to reach a junction.

(3) Ignore a track on your right and carry on straight ahead along the Chemin des Paluas. Don’t miss the magnificent viewpoint on your left, accessible from the courtyard of a holiday home, overlooking Campan with a 180° view of the valley: please be respectful – there is no fence, but you are on private property.

(4) Leave the track on your right and continue along the tarmac road, which slopes gently downwards.

(5) At the tight left-hand bend, leave the tarmac to the right to pass under the barn via a fairly steep old country lane, emerging onto a track just beyond the bridge over the Ruisseau Dominiquat.

(6) Continue along the route by following the track to the right, which climbs alongside the stream before leaving it to wind its way through the beech forest in wide hairpin bends, eventually reaching the Gorge du Hourc.

(7) Ignore a path on your right that would take you towards the Route Forestière de Peyras and turn left onto the track to begin the descent towards the hamlet of Galade. Walk down alongside the Ruisseau du Hourc to reach the first houses in the hamlet.

(8) Turn round and follow the outbound route in the opposite direction to return to the starting point (S/E).
