Car park near Castéra.
(S/E) The trail starts above the car park, passes above the hamlet of Frechendech and then follows the Torrent de l'Isard. It passes by barns that have been restored to varying degrees, and the hamlet of La Peyre, which has been very well restored. Cross the Ruisseau de Labor.
(1) At the fork, the trail (GRP® marked in red and yellow) continues to the left, slightly above the stream, before crossing it via a footbridge. The trail then begins to climb with a hairpin bend to the right.
(2) The trail passes in front of the Escudié fountain. Continue along the Isard.
(3) At the Passerelle des Pichès footbridge (which you will cross on the way back), continue along the same bank on the path that climbs gradually. Just before leaving the forest, follow the yellow + red and yellow markings carefully, as there are several paths due to the water. At the fork (altitude 1399m), turn right.
(4) When you reach the summer pasture, at the wooden sign, continue left towards the bottom of the valley. The path climbs and arrives at the Cabane d'Illau.
(5) This is a good place to take a break before heading back. Retrace your steps to the crossroads with the wooden sign.
(4) Turn left (GRP®) and ford the Ruisseau de l'Araing stream (no bridge). Continue along this path, which more or less follows the contour lines and takes you to the other side of the valley.
(6) Cross the Isard on the bridge (Cabane Forestière de l'Isard a little above on the left), the path turns right and continues following the Torrent de l'Isard.
(7) In an open area with the Chapelle de l'Isard chapel, continue along the path, which initially zigzags downhill to reach the Passerelle des Pichès footbridge.
(3) Cross the footbridge and take the path on the left, then return via the same route you took to the car park (S/E).
