Cabane d'Antème - Cantine de la Barmaz

This stage partly follows the Tour des Dents du Midi, with a remarkable passage at the foot of the Sauflaz Gorges. As you climb back up towards Bonavau, you will switch to the Tour des Dents Blanches. The Barme Plateau is a magnificent place to contemplate these famous white teeth.

This walk is part of a multi-day hike: Tour of the Dents du Midi and Petits Perrons

TDM signposting: Tour des Dents du Midi

(S) From the Cabane d'Antème, find the TDM near the lake. Begin the descent, ignoring the various paths to the right. After going around the Antème ridge, you will arrive at the Mettecui chalet in a hairpin bend.

(1) Facing south, continue downhill until you reach the Rossétan path.

(2) Stay on the TDM; the trail becomes flatter and curves around several streams. Pass a chalet, then head south again and begin a new descent towards the Saufla stream.

(3) Take the Belle Étoile footbridge to cross the Saufla. Heading west, return to the junction with the Tour des Dents Blanches / Alpenpässe -Weg No. 6
Alpenpässe -Weg No. 6 signpost

(4) At the intersection, leave the TDM trail that heads south and take the Alpenpässe - Weg No. 6 or TDB trail that heads north, cross two streams and reach a chalet at an altitude of 1,552 metres. Continue to the Bonavau refuge (a good place to stop for a break).

(5) Take the trail west and climb to the small pass near the Bonavau sign.

(6) Begin the descent into the Barme valley and come out onto a small road. Turn left and continue to the Cantine de Barmaz (E), your destination for the day.
