Setting off from Buffières, we head for Suin and its famous “butte” via theGR®76Cand then theGR®7. The Butte de Suin rises to around 600 m. From the orientation table, there is a 360° view. You can see the Charolais region to the west, Mont Saint-Vincent and Montceau-les-Mines to the north-west, the Chalon region to the north-east, the Cluny region to the east, and Mont Saint-Cyr and the foothills of the Beaujolais to the south. Description of the walk

Hiking car park, Rue du Bourg, towards the cemetery.

(S/E) With your back to the car park, head left towards the town hall and then Le Caruge to join theGR®76C. At the first junction signposted ‘Le Caruge’, leave the D41 and continue straight on along the path.

(1) At the junction with the sign for Le Caruge, turn left towards the Bois du Devant. On leaving the woods, turn left towards the Moulin Georges.

(2) Turn right towards the Bois de la Garde, crossing the Grande Rivière stream. Climb up to the edge of the Bois de Boulay.

(3) Turn left, continuing to follow theGR®76C, which curves to the left, and head uphill, staying on the edge of the woods, to the Haut de Boulay.

(4) At the first junction at La Croix de Vaux, cross the road and continue straight ahead. At the second junction, cross the road again, continue straight ahead and pass through the hamlet of Le Trapan.

(5) At the three-way junction, turn right and head into the Bois de Nialin. Continue along theGR®76C, which, after a hairpin bend and a wide right-hand curve, heads north-west.

(6) On leaving the Bois de Mégine, keep left to join theGR®7. At the junction, head up the left-hand path towards Suin, then follow the road towards Ripaine, passing through Les Roches and Gauzat, and reach the fork at the Croix de Sivignon.

(7) Carry on straight ahead along the Route de la Butte.

(8) Leave the D379 on your right and head up towards Suin via the Chemin des Buis.

(9) In Suin, climb up to the Butte towards the orientation table. Admire the 360° panorama, then head back towards the statue of the Virgin Mary and the church. There’s a spot for a picnic below the statue. Walk back down to the cemetery below.

(10) Turn left, following theGR®7towards Sivignon.

(11) At L’Écousserie du Haut, at the cross, leave theGR®7and continue along the path opposite.

(12) At the junction, by the ‘Champ Colon’ sign, turn left towards Sivignon cemetery. At the crossroads, cross the road and continue along the dirt track opposite.

(13) At the cemetery, continue along the path on the right to the hamlet of Martrat.

(14) At the junction, head up to the left and then turn right onto the path towards Laurandon.

(15) At the first junction, turn left. Follow the path towards the mill. After the bridge, at the junction, carry on straight ahead towards Bel-Air. After the houses in Bel-Air, ignore the path on the right.

(16) At the junction, turn left, then walk through the hamlet of Châtillon and turn right onto the path leading to the Buffières cemetery.

(17) Continue left towards the school and head for the hiking car park (S/E).
