Description of the walk

(S/E) From the town hall, head down Route de la Butte.

(1) Take the second left onto Chemin des Marots, then turn right onto a small path towards Bois de la Montagne.

(2) Once you have crossed it, take Route de Tillay on the left.

(3) In Tillay, take the first right onto Chemin des Barons. Continue straight ahead along this path.

(4) At the end of the path, take Chemin des Parais on the left.

(5) At the junction, by the wooden cross, continue straight ahead along the path.

(6) Further on, at the Fork in the road before Sous les Pins, continue straight ahead and then, after the house, take a path on the right.

(7) At the Champs de Boulay junction, turn right.

(8) After about 1 km, at the Fork in the road, keep right and cross over the Ruisseau de la Carrèze. Turn left then go straight on.

(9) At the junction with the D79, continue along the path that goes straight on.

(10) After 200 metres, at the fork, turn right onto Chemin de la Vernaie. After 600 m, at Bois de la Vernée, continue straight ahead.

(11) Return to the road and follow it to the left.

(12) Turn right onto Route de la Vernaie at La Tanière.

(13) At the junction at Étang Pontus, after the cowshed and farmhouse, first turn right then left and continue along Chemin d'Availly.

(14) Cross the D79 and continue straight on along Route de Tillay, then turn left onto Chemin de l'Étang d'Availly.

(15) After the pond, turn right onto Chemin des Molières.

(16) When you reach the road, turn right. Continue straight on along Route du Bois de Morphée.

(17) After 200 metres, continue to the right along the path. When you reach the road again, go straight ahead.

(18) At the junction, turn left onto Route du Gauzat.

(19) At Le Gauzat, turn right.

(20) At Paillon, take the D379 on the left, Route de la Butte, then turn right onto Chemin des Buis. When you reach the hill, you can take a detour to the viewpoint. Otherwise, at the junction, turn right and head for the car park (S/E).

Worth a visit

Panoramic views of the Charolais and Beaujolais hills.

La Butte de Suin:a must-see viewpoint. It rises to 593 metres. A path leads to the statue of the Virgin Mary, where there is an orientation table. From there, a magnificent panoramic view unfolds. You can see the Charolais to the west, Mont Saint-Vincent and Montceau-les-Mines to the north-west, the Chalonnaise region to the north-east, the Clunysois to the east, and Mont Saint-Cyr and the foothills of the Beaujolais to the south. The hill was home to a fortified site from the Celtic era untilthe 16th century.
