Broto - Yosa - Tozal del Pueyo

Superb loop to the abandoned village of Yosa, along the GR®-15. The return via the ridge offers sumptuous views of the surrounding area, particularly the Pyrenean peaks of Monte Perdido and its sisters.

Description of the walk

Park in the car park at the South entrance to Broto on the main road.

(S/E) Head North-West through the village with its many shops. Reach the bridge over the Rio Ara.

(1) Turn left and descend the staircase along the river. Follow the GR®-15 signs for Yosa and Otal. You reach the Oto road, which you follow to the left for a few hundred metres. The GR® leaves the road on the right and follows a beautiful suspended path offering magnificent views of Broto. Enter Oto.

(2) Head West through the village, following signs that are not always very clear. It will take you back down to the outskirts of the town. Always follow the more obvious signs.
Initially, you will pass through agricultural areas with wide views. Then enter wooded areas with many box and walnut trees. The climb is gentle, becoming steeper as you approach the hamlet of Yosa, which you reach.

(3) Continue North-West on the GR®°-15 and follow the Otal-Puerto de Yosa signs. Then fork due West and, after a short, hard climb, reach the Tozal del Pueyo, which you reach by bending eastwards (1602m).

(4) Enjoy this superb balcony with a 360° view. For the return journey, follow the Broto signs on the well-marked track that remains on the Serrato de Yosa ridge. Ignore the paths that go off in the direction of Liñas or Fragen. Reach the antennae overlooking the valley to enjoy the view.

(5) From the antennae, retrace your steps for about 150m, then turn left in a hairpin bend and descend steeply to reach the village of Oto.

(2) Turn left and follow the same route back to the car park (S/E).

Notes

We didn't find any water along the way.
A "Fuente" sign in Yosa seems to indicate a fountain, which we didn't look for.

Worth a visit

(3) Yosa: a visit to the ruins is a must. The panorama is superb, with the Manchoya ridges to the South and the Pyrenees to the East.

Places to visit: (1) Broto, (2) Oto.

Nearby Torla, gateway to Ordesa National Park.

A very, very pretty walk, on beautiful paths, with beautiful scenery and plenty of possible variations to increase or reduce the difficulty.

Broto-Tozal del Pueyo loop
Very interesting route to the village of Tozal (ruins), then the return journey is less pleasant ... We went as far as Pic du Pelotin (magnificent 360° view), but I think it's possible to build a circuit by continuing along the ridges: Punta Colonial and Punta Gabalos with a return via Punta Alvarosa and Broto...
Longer but an extraordinary view of the Pyrenees.
I'll be back to try it out.

At the summit, on a clear day, you can see the Brèche de Roland.

Thank you climbergilles
There was indeed a mistake. However, the automatic recalculation carried out by the Visorando software gives 709m of positive ascent, i.e. almost 400m less than you.

The climb indicated is completely folkloric and is likely to discourage many people!
The reality is 1100m WITH THE ADDITION OF THE PELOPIN, i.e. 400m more.

A variation: we camped (in the wild) in our vehicle on the banks of the river in the village of OTO, which is smaller and less urbanised than PROTO n order to reach the banks of the torrent, we drove through OTO towards its municipal campsite, which we bypassed, then crossed a ford that was accessible by car, several km of deserted and peaceful banks (apart from the cows :-).

The route is then easily reached on foot.

We also looked for the fountain in the abandoned village of Yosa, but didn't find it.

/We hadn't taken enough water: hiking in a hot, arid environment, you need to take more than usual !!!!

6-hour hike including breaks.

Many thanks to jfr32230, we had a great time!
