La Faja Racon

On the right bank of the Rio Arazas, the Faja Racon trail is very similar to that on the left bank, the Faja de Pelay.

Description of the walk

Park at the large car park in the village of Torla, then take the shuttle bus to the Pradera car park.

(S/E) Continue on foot in the opposite direction to Casa de Olivan.

(1) Take the steep path North to Las Clavijas de Salarons (signposted). When you reach the Gallinero torrent (Barranco in Spanish), stay on its left bank and continue northwards on a steep ascent.

(2) Leave the Clavijas path at the crossroads to take the very good Faja Racon path on the horizontal right.
Skirt the steep cliffs of Punta Gallinero, then Saco Ciego, to reach the rocky barrier of Circo de Cotatuero.

(3) Begin the descent of the right bank of the Torrent de Cotatuero on a good path that joins the track leading to the bottom of the Rio Arazas valley.

(4) Turn right onto this track, which leads back to the Pradera car park (S/E).

Great hike, to be continued with faja cotatuero, also beautiful, if you find the hike too short.

We hiked in fine weather, but a little early in the season because a huge block of ice blocked the path halfway along, making it difficult to get round the cliff (because there is little room for hands and feet, so we don't recommend it!)
The views are indeed splendid.
I extended the route by first going as far as the Carriata clavijas (lots of isards in this area) and before descending the Faya Racon route, I went as far as the Cotuatero clavijas.
Then, after rejoining the Rio Arazas, I pushed on to the gradas de Sosao.
All in all, just over 26 km in 6 hours 17 minutes, with 1,123 m of ascent and 1,159 m of descent (according to my POLAR watch).
The gradients given in the information sheet are well overestimated, as the positive gradient for the Carriatas clavijas is around 720 m. and the Faya Racon is much lower.

After leaving the car at the car park in the village of Torla, the bus dropped us off at Ordesa.
The route to the Faja Racon is well signposted. A long climb through the woods at the start to warm up... Very interesting route, good views of the region, a few narrow passages on the ledge, but not insurmountable. Worth doing.

Hi, fantastic hike, it's possible and interesting to do the Faja Canarellos, the start of which is signposted on the way down from the Faja Racon, which takes a good 2 hours longer but makes for an unforgettable day.The descent at the end of the Faja Canarellos is very gentle through a beautiful forest, and when I reached the path that runs alongside the Rio Arazas, I continued on to the Gradas de Sosao for a total outing of 10 hours, but in fact about 8 hours, counting the countless photo stops (and I don't walk fast).
The Faja Canarellos is shorter than the Faja Racon and sometimes a little more exposed, but without snow it's quite easy unless you're afraid of heights. When you finish the pleasant descent of the Faja Canarellos, you're about 50 minutes from the Gradas de Sosao, beautiful waterfalls that are themselves about an hour from the Colla del Caballo (Horse's tail) at the end of the Ordessa valley.

Magnificent hike on one of the 2 sides of the Ordesa canyon
From the Pradera car park, there's a path leading to the Faja Racon.
This avoids having to take the tarmac road back.
There is also a second path, again towards the Faja Racon, before Casa Olivan.
The hike is short but no less splendid.
Perhaps even more interesting than the Faja Pelay.
From the fork under the Tozal del Malo, the path is more or less flat.

There's just one drawback: the first climb up the path to the junction below the Tozal del Malo differs from the GPS track.
You have to climb all the way up to the signpost, whereas the GPS indicates that you have turned left onto the path to the clavijas.

This is a must-do, even though it may seem too short - the scenery is well worth the diversions.

From the car park to La Casa de Olivan, there's a path that runs parallel to the road, so there's no more tarmac to contend with.
The advertised mileage is good, but the difference in altitude is 580 m (according to my Suunto Ambit GPS).

The description is simple and light, but definitely sufficient.

A very pleasant balcony walk on a very good path. Lovely views. Ideal walk for a sunny October, neither very long nor very tiring.
Thanks for sharing.
