A pleasant circular starting from Vieux Saint-Sylvestre, heading to Saint-Priest-Bramefant through the Bois Brun forest and back. Very little tarmac and beautiful scenery on a clear day. An easy hike.

Description of the walk

Parking on Rue des Noyers in Vieux Saint-Sylvestre, at a place called La Doualle.

(S/E) Take the tarmac road heading south-west.

(1) Turn left to cross the level crossing and stay on the track until you reach the top of the hill at Les Bénédins.

(2) Turn right and continue straight ahead through the Bois Brun forest until you reach a five-way junction.

(3) Turn completely left and follow the track to the junction at the edge of the woods.

(4) Head right towards Saint-Priest-Bramefant.

(5) Take the first track on the left, go to the crossroads and climb left towards the water tower.

(6) Turn right, then turn left onto the track that leads further into the woods. Turn right towards the edge.

(7) Turn left towards the Bois Menu farm.

(8) Turn right and cross the bridge over the Ruisseau de la Gournaude to reach the D434.

(9) Carefully follow the departmental road on the left until you reach the calvary. Leave the D434 on the left at Champlong and continue straight ahead on the track, leaving the road to Les Bénédins on your left.

(10) Cross the railway line via the bridge and continue uphill until you reach La Doualle (S/E).

A very pleasant route in all seasons. You will walk through wooded areas at the bottom of the valley, accompanied by the sound of the babbling brook, but also through open areas offering views of the Monts Dômes to the west and the Montagne Bourbonnaise to the east. The passages near the monument to the 11 Martyrs of Goutte Grandval and the Château de Busset give this route a historical appeal.
