Description of the walk

In Busset, park in the small car park by the cemetery, located to the west of the village.
Please note! This hike is not marked in its entirety, nor as such.

(S/E) Head east to reach the village and arrive at the entrance to the castle.

(1) Take the lane on the left, just at the corner of the beautiful house with the dovecote (see photo), then, just after, take the path marked in yellow andGR®® (red and white) on the right. Follow the yellow markings unless otherwise indicated.

(2) At a fork in the road, near a wooden cross, turn left. Further on, cross a stream, the Gourcet, on a "footbridge" made of old electricity poles.

(3) At the crossroads of four paths, follow the yellow markings on the right but leave theGR®® markings. Cross a road (D175) and continue on the path opposite. At the crossroads, continue straight ahead. Then, near a house, take the Chemin des Coups on the left.

(4) At the next intersection, turn right onto the path. You will come to a road, the D121. Cross it and continue along the small road opposite, towards "Les Dachez". Leave this hamlet on your left and continue along the path that approaches the Sichon (stream), before following it on your left. Ignore a forest path on your right. Ignore a bridge over the Sichon on your left and continue straight ahead on the small road.

(5) Follow it when, further on, it turns right and goes uphill. Cross a hamlet, Petit Cossange, then continue straight on along the path.

(6) At the intersection of several paths, ignore the first one on the left, which leads back (not shown on the map), and take the second one (still following the yellow markings), which is perpendicular to the one you arrived on. Arrive at the hamlet of La Croix Bernard (short variant, see "Practical information").

(7) Do not follow the yellow markings any further. Just before reaching the road, do not pass in front of the cross, but turn onto the path that branches off to the left. A few metres further on, you will find aGR®® marking on a tree, which you should follow until further notice. You will come to a road; follow it to the left.

(8) When you reach the hamlet of Liages, pass the cross (hidden by a wreck) and, about 50 metres further on, leave the road and take a path on the right.

(9) About 1 km further on, be careful not to miss the path that branches off to the left, still marked with theGR®® but also with yellow markings. Further on, the path crosses a wood. Follow theGR®® markings and the small red arrows to help you stay on the path.

(10) When you reach a road, turn right, leaving theGR®® and following the yellow markings. You will see the Chaîne des Puys on your left. At the next crossroads, continue straight ahead despite the yellow cross.

(11) At the crossroads, turn right towards the antenna, pass it, then cross the hamlet of Les Sapins Bernard. You will see the Château de Busset on your left. You will arrive at the Croix Bernard crossroads, which you already passed on the way there.

(7) Continue straight ahead on the road, following theGR®® and yellow markings. We will follow theseGR®® markings until we return to Busset. At a fork in the road, keep right, in the direction of "Les Bizais".

(12) Further on, at the crossroads, turn left onto Chemin du Gourcet to cross the hamlet of Les Bizais, ignoring Chemin de Gut on your right twice. At the end of the hamlet, continue along the road.

(13) Cross the Gourcet at a beautiful wash house on your left, cross the road and continue on the path opposite and slightly to the right. When you reach the tarmac, immediately take a path in the same direction. When you reach a street in the village of Busset, turn right to arrive at the bottom of the castle. Continue to the right, walking alongside the church, then turn left to return to the entrance to the castle and the house with the dovecote.

(1) Continue straight ahead on the same road as on the way there until you reach the cemetery (S/E).

I recommend this route, which is pleasant and easy to follow. The village landmarks make it easy to follow the route.

Hello, everyone!

Note: We did not complete the loop (8, 9, 10, 11) at point 7, as it appears that most of this section is on paved roads.
So from 7, return to the starting point following the route. In summary, according to the GPS: 11.26 km, elevation gain: 310 m, 3.5 hours of walking.

It should also be noted that from point 7 to the finish, the path is paved and has no shade (except for the short climb after the wash house, just before Busset).
However, the entire beginning of the route, up to point 7, La Croix Bernard, is well shaded and on pleasant paths. It would therefore be preferable to do the circuit in reverse, so that you can do the paved section in the cool of the morning and enjoy the shade afterwards. The slight disadvantage of this is that you end with a climb, but it is in the shade and coolness of the undergrowth.

This short country walk is pleasant, easy and can be described as easy. There is a wide variety of birdsong in the forest (common chiffchaff, blackcap, song thrush, blackbird, treecreeper, nuthatch, chaffinch, black swift, etc.).
Best regards to all.
Pierre

Superb hike with varied landscapes.
There is a small error in the details at point 6: the description is perfect, but contrary to what is indicated, you should no longer follow the yellow markings, and the correct path is the second on the left!
At this intersection, there is a tree trunk in a small clearing where you can stop for a snack halfway through the hike!
Some sections can be tricky in wet weather due to deep ruts created by agricultural machinery.

Not much to see, no remarkable villages to pass through, a walk of little interest even though the river (the Sichon) is pleasant.

Very nice hike with little road walking. 5 hours 35 minutes is a long time; we did it in 4 hours without rushing, with a long lunch break by the water.

A superb walk, very pleasant in warm weather as it is well shaded and passes over and alongside two streams. Beautiful rolling views. Well described.

We only did the first circular, which we loved for its route and beautiful views.
Just a comment on the directions and signposting at point No. 4:

(4) At the next intersection, turn right onto the path. You will come to a road, the D121. Cross it and continue on the small road opposite, towards "Les Dachez". Pass this hamlet and continue on the path that leads towards the Sichon (stream).

When we arrived in the hamlet, we were about to cross it when a friendly local directed us back onto the path that descends towards the Sichon, in the centre of the hamlet and not after it. Furthermore, there were no markings either before or after, nor any signposts that could have guided us.

This was the only minor incident on an otherwise very enjoyable walk.

Thank you for all your hard work.
