This circular mountain bike route mainly takes you around Montignac, a village in the Vézère Valley famous for its cave, then the village of Valojoulx with its pretty manor houses, mills and ponds.

Description of the route

Parking spaces are available along the Vézère river, near Allée Delbonnel.

Mountain bike signpost no. 12

(S/E) With your back to the Bleufond stadium, turn right. At the stop sign, take the street on the right, then left onto the path after the stadium. Follow this path until you reach the road.

(1) Follow it to the right until you reach no. 21.

(2) Immediately afterwards, turn left onto the path and continue straight ahead until you reach the end.

(3) Take the road on the right, then the first dirt track on the left.

(4) At the bottom of the valley, take the path on the right, then at the end, continue on the left.

(5) At the end of Chemin des Fontas, take the small road on the right with the house and turn right at the first junction to reach the next fork.

(6) Keep right on the gravel road, then turn right again at the next fork.

(7) At the junction with the road, take the path opposite, slightly to the right, and you will reach a junction at a farm.

(8) At the crossroads, continue straight ahead along the path between the house and the large buildings. Pass between two fields and arrive at a fork.

(9) Continue left on the path at the edge of the forest until you reach a crossroads at the edge of the hillside.

(10) Turn right and continue along the tarmac road until you reach the second bend to the right, at a stone cross.

(11) Take the small path on the left and head towards Valojoulx church.

(12) Go around the church on the right, then head towards the Étangs de Valojoulx and continue along the Route des Moulins until you reach the end.

(13) Turn right onto the road, then left onto Chemin du Castanet.

(14) Pass through the hamlet and turn left onto the path between the trees. At the end, take the road on the right towards the place called Peatland.

(15) Turn left, then right onto Impasse de la Peatland. At the end of this road, follow the path that passes to the left of the tennis court and continue to the next crossroads.

(16) Continue left and go straight on until the end of the path.

(17) At the end of Impasse de la Valette, take the track on the right, then follow the road on the left. Stay on Route des Combes, keeping to the right.

(18) Just after the sign for Les Combes, take the path on the right, then right again onto the path that leads into the forest.

(19) In the valley, continue to the left and follow the edge of the forest. Admire the view of Château de la Filolie.

(20) At the road, go straight ahead and then turn left onto the path after the bridge.

(21) At the road, continue on the path opposite, to the right of the waste collection centre, and then continue straight ahead until you reach the road. Continue to the 90° right-hand bend.

(22) Follow the path to the left and then quickly to the right.

(23) At the road, turn right and continue straight ahead until you reach a four-way intersection.

(24) At the stop sign, turn right and at the next one, continue straight ahead until the next one.

(25) Turn right onto Chemin de Gouny, then turn into the first street on the left, towards Moulin du Bleufond. You will come back to the junction you passed on the way there.

(1) Turn right onto the road and follow it in the opposite direction to the outward journey until you reach Allée Delbonnel (S/E).
