Circular route in the Pays Mésageois

A lovely walk in peaceful surroundings, ideal for families. Tracks, paths, trails and tarmac combine in the shade of the woodland for most of the route, where you won’t find the crowds.

Description of the walk

Park in the spacious car park at the Place de la Mairie in Notre-Dame-de-Mésage.

(S/E) The walk starts on the uphill road, heading south-west, as you leave the car park. After about 500m, once you have passed the cemetery and the Church of Sainte-Marie Saint-Firmin (on the map), take the wide track facing you, heading south-south-west, which ends in a tarmac road. This will take you, after just under 2km, to the hamlet of Les Peyrauds (Saint-Pierre-de-Mésage).

(1) At the crossroads, turn right onto the uphill track towards Font Jillarde, then after 150m, head down to your left to take the Font Jillarde path on the right a few metres further down. Pass under a power line and continue in this direction to the summit (1.5km).

(2) At Font Jillarde, take thePR® path on your left heading down towards La Frette/Loula. Cross the Pont de Loula bridge and you will then come across various hydroelectric installations (pipelines).

(3) At Loula, take the steep, stony path on your right towards La Frette; this route leads to the “Câble de Keller” point.

(4) Leave the path towards La Frette on your right and, on your left, stay on thePR® descending towards Saint-Pierre-de-Mésage. Follow this route for about 2 km, until you reach the “Le Grand David” point.

(5) Continue straight on towards Notre-Dame-de-Mésage, ignoring the turn-off to the right for Saint-Pierre and its church. You will soon reach the tarmac road, following the yellow or white-and-red markings and the “Notre-Dame” signposts. You will reach the Peyrauds crossroads.

(1) Follow the route you took on the way there to return to the starting point (S/E).

The walk, taken in this direction, features steeper climbs and gentler descents; depending on your preference, choose which way to go.

The junction at Font Jillarde for La Frette/Loula is located just before the summit.

A very quiet walk, no doubt because it’s simply a pleasant way to stroll through the countryside, with no particular destination in mind.
Best done in warm weather!

A run along roads and local tracks, followed by a route through the woods on a carpet of leaves, with a long climb and then a steeper descent. A great way to start a Sunday morning!

A short, easy walk in the local area. On the way back, there’s a fairly long descent to reach and cross the stream. But we’re almost there...

A lovely walk through the woods. It felt a bit long after more than two months of lockdown, but it was a real pleasure to be back on the trails and to explore an area we knew little about.
Following the snowfalls and storms of 2019, there are still a few fallen trees between Loula Bridge and the Keller cable.
