Circular route in the Pays de Thelle

A pleasant, easy hike from village to village. Unfortunately, a few sections of very quiet minor roads are unavoidable, as are a few dozen metres along a main road. There are three beautiful churches to see, including Fresne-Leguillon, which is usually open and has been particularly well restored.

Description of the walk

Park in the square in front of the church.

(S/E) Take the street almost opposite the church, Grande Rue, until you reach Rue du Pont Neuf on the right.

(1) Turn onto this street, continue along a grassy path and walk alongside a housing estate until you reach a crossroads. We will return to this crossroads at the end of the circular route.

(2) Turn left heading north and continue to the entrance to Fresne-Léguillon.

(3) Take the street on the left, then immediately after that, the one on the right, Rue de la Mairie, and you will arrive in front of the imposing Notre-Dame Church.

(4) Turn right onto Rue de l'Église, cross Rue Nationale and take Rue du 11 Novembre, slightly to the right. Leave Fresne-Léguillon and arrive at a small cemetery with a triangular grassy area.

(5) Take the small road on the right that heads south and leads to the village of Heulecourt. Enter the village and continue to the crossroads with Rue de la Liberté

(6) Turn right, leave Heulecourt, cross the D105 with caution and follow the wide dirt track opposite, which heads south, then curves west in a wide bend and arrives opposite a copse with barely visible houses, Le Breuil. (Shortcut possible, see "Practical information").

(7) Take the small road on the left heading south, pass the Marquemont Canal, cross the D121 with caution and continue for about 50 metres.

(8) Take the fairly wide dirt track that branches off to the left. It climbs gently through the undergrowth and follows a cliff on the right, which you will begin to see after several hundred metres. This track leads to a small road that goes to Monneville.

(9) Follow this road to the right, making a hairpin turn. The road descends towards Marquemont le Haut.

(10) Take the road on the right that leads to the cemetery and Saint-Martin Church (beautiful view). Walk around the church and return to the previous intersection.

(9) Follow the road downhill to the right.

(8) Continue straight ahead, cross the D121 and then two rivers, and continue to a place called Le Breuil.

(7) Continue straight ahead on a path until you reach the D105.

(11) Follow the road to the left for 400 metres, skirting a field until you reach the entrance to Fleury.

(12) Turn right onto the grassy path. This path runs alongside the housing estate until the fork in the road.

(2) Turn left, pass the football stadium and continue straight on until you reach Grande Rue.

(1) Follow this road to the left and you will reach the church square (S/E).

Notes

Good shoes are necessary for walking on paths that are often rutted by farm machinery. You can fill up your water bottles at the Marquemont cemetery. Many of the paths run through fields, so a hat will be welcome on summer days.

(7) Turn right and join the D105 (11), 8 km.
