Park in the car park at 3 Rue du Couvent in Saint-Jean-aux-Bois.
(S/E) Take the path to the arboretum to soak up the scents of the forest; ignore thefirst path on the left and, at the Fork in the road, turn right. Continue to Rue du Couvent, turn left and walk past the former abbey church dating from 1152. Turn right to reach it, enter the church and walk around the abbey grounds, then retrace your steps. Continue along Rue du Couvent until you reach an old farm porch.
(1) Turn right onto the path leading to Rue des Abbesses. Pass to the right of the town hall and, further on, at the bend, follow a path leading to the Fortified Gate of the Abbey and the Ru des Planchettes. Head towards the porch leading to the small bridge and continue past the village bistro to the Tête Saint-Jean roundabout.
(2) Turn left onto the start of the cycle path, then turn right into the forest and follow the signs to the Chêne de Saint-Jean. Cross two paths, pass the Chêne de Saint-Jean and arrive at a fork in the road.
(3) Turn right and head back towards the Route du Pont Palesne and the Carrefour du Boquet Colin. Then pass through the following crossroads: de la Ruine, des Mares de Jaux and d’Adonis, before reaching the tarmac at the Carrefour de l’Oiseau. Carefully take the D332 to the left, then quickly turn right to reach the hamlet of La Brévière.
(4) Pass the château on your left, turn left after the château, continue to the Carrefour d’Apollon and turn right towards the Étang de Sainte-Perine. Pass the forester’s house on your right, follow the lake to the left until you reach a footbridge, then take the path to the left. Afterwards, turn right, continue to the end and turn right again until you reach the Carrefour des Amoureux.
(5) Turn left and continue to the Carrefour de Bourbon.
(6) Turn right onto the Route du Grand Octogone. Pass the Carrefour du Longpont and continue to the Carrefour des Princesses.
(7) Turn left and continue to the Carrefour Callisto.
(8) Turn left and continue to the Carrefour des Muses via the Route de Diane
GR®®12.
(9) Turn left and continue to the D116. Turn right; further on, cross the D332 with care and continue to Route du Parquet.
(10) Turn right onto this road and continue to the town entrance, passing a wash house on your right.
(1) Continue in the opposite direction along the same route as on the way out to return to the car park (S/E).
