Moulin loop between Lacollonge and Bethonvilliers

A beautiful walk in the countryside of Lacollonge and Bethonvilliers. 10 km east of Belfort. Beautiful view of the peaks of the Southern Vosges.
Countryside landscape watered by the Madeleine River. Beautiful old farms, a beautiful covered wooden bridge, a few beautiful ponds, an old mill...
The walk is signposted.

Description of the walk

Parking spaces and bus stop (Optymo lines 23 - 32- 51) at 30 Rue d'Alsace, 90150 Lacollonge.
The circuit is marked by a Green Ring.

(S/E) Continue along Rue d'Alsace eastwards towards Fontaine. After 50 metres, turn right (due south) onto Rue du Fahy. At the end of the street, turn right. Walk along the edge of the forest. Before entering the forest, don't forget to look back at the landscape. There is a superb view of Le Salbert, La Planche des Belles Filles and almost all the peaks of the Southern Vosges. Enter the forest for 100 metres.

(1) Turn left. After 800 metres, just as you leave the forest, turn left. Walk along the cultivated fields, staying at the edge of the forest. You will reach the D22.

(2) Turn left and 100 m further on, cross the road and take the gravel path on the right. The Anneau Vert markings are helpful. After 100 m, turn left into "le Petit Bois". The path zigzags a few times before reaching the D31.

(3) Follow it to the right towards the north. After 100 metres, continue straight ahead on the path and pass over the A36 motorway. Continue on the same path that runs alongside La Madeleine. Arrive at Bethonvilliers.

(4) Turn left onto the D25, taking a moment to admire the pretty covered bridge. Shortly afterwards, you will see the leat on your left. Continue on the D25 for 300 metres after the leat, just after the Ruisseau des Perches.

(5) Take a path on the left. At the edge of the woods, you will see the Ancien Moulin Notre-Dame behind the pasture. It is fed by the leat of the mill we saw earlier. The path curves westwards and crosses a small stream via a footbridge. Turn left just after the footbridge. The path leads to the D22.

(6) Turn left towards the east, pass under the A36 motorway and arrive at Lacollonge via Rue des Vosges. Follow this road to the next crossroads.

(7) Turn left onto Rue d'Alsace, which will take you back to the starting point (S/E).

Notes

Parking: Rue d'Alsace in Lacollonge
Please ensure you park in the spaces marked on the ground. You must leave access for lorries to the eco-point and sufficient space for school buses to turn around. There are also parking spaces along the road.
You can also park in front of the town hall at Rue de la Mairie, 90150 Lacollonge.
Visorando was informed by Mr Chevalley, a volunteer member of Balisage90.
This hike was created by the Tilleul community of communes, which is now part of Greater Belfort.

Worth a visit

Lacollonge: you will be charmed by the 20th-century farms, which showcase red sandstone architecture. The commune of Lacollonge is crossed by the La Madeleine river. It is home to a wide variety of fish, including pike, carp and gudgeon.

Bethonvilliers: a very hilly town. In the middle of the village there is a superb covered footbridge. Admire the old mill, which is still in operation. It was founded by François Thuriot in 1730.
Bethonvilliers had a blast furnace for producing iron. The iron ore came from the mines of Roppe and Eguenigue. (There are supposed to be traces of this, but I admit I don't know where. If any hikers know, please leave a comment and I will update this description).

The hike also passes close to the Old Notre Dame Mill. From a distance, it looks like an old farmhouse.

Thank you for your feedback.
We are sorry, but we really did not see anything, which surprised us because the signage with "signage 90" is truly exceptional.
Thank you very much

Hello Marysette

First of all, thank you for your comment.

Following your comment, I alerted the Balisage90 marker who maintains this trail.
He checked this section and found no missing markers between points 1 and 2. The rings are still there to guide hikers.

Kind regards

A very beautiful route that is very well marked, except between points 1 and 2 where there are no longer any rings. Fortunately, the route is excellent. To be repeated in good weather

A beautiful, very easy and well-marked hike.
Superb scenery shortly after setting off – don't forget to turn around and admire it.
The charming village of Lacollonge.
Beautiful oak trees along the route, often in the forest, which is very pleasant when it's hot.

We tried it today... it was indeed very muddy and unfortunately infested with mosquitoes, which forced us to interrupt our hike . We will try again in spring or autumn.

A very pleasant and well-marked trail through the woods.
Same observation as other walkers who report muddy sections. With good footwear, it's fine.
Thank you for introducing us to this short hike, which we will happily do again.

A fairly shaded and very well-marked route, rather muddy and not very well maintained between the D22 and D31.

Well marked and no difficulty. Please note: wear waterproof footwear between points 2 and 3, as the paths through the "petit bois" are ruts filled with stagnant water at this time of year (April 2021).

A very beautiful hike. You can even buy flour at the Thuriot mill in Bethonvilliers, located about 2 km from the end of the circuit.
