Description of the walk

The trail starts at the town hall, 1 Rue Margrabant, 90150 Larivière. The route is marked with a blue and green S for sentier (trail).

(S/E) Turn left as you leave the car park and follow Rue du Margrabant. Cross the Étang Virgie stream, then the Margrabant, and continue along Rue du Faubourg to the cemetery.

(1) Turn left, cross a meadow via a pretty footbridge and enter the forest.

(2) Carefully cross the D60 and continue for 500 m along the edge of the forest.

(3) Turn right and enter the woods. Follow the well-marked path. Join the D31.

(4) Follow it to the right, passing over the A36 motorway.

(5) 100 m after the motorway, turn right onto the wide path along pretty pastures.

(6) 300 m before the houses in Lagrange, watch the markings carefully and turn right onto a forest path that crosses the small Bois Leroy. Follow the markings carefully to follow the path that winds through the forest. At the edge of the woods, turn left, and at the roundabout, go left and follow the D12 until the left turn on this road.

(7) Turn right, then keep to the right to reach the ponds. Turn left and walk along the south-western side of the ponds. There are a few signs describing the different species of trees.

(8) Turn right just after the footbridge and continue through the forest until you reach the exit.

(9) Continue straight ahead south on the path that runs alongside beautiful cultivated fields and a small wood.

(10) Turn right as you enter the forest and go through the tunnel under the motorway. Turn left when you reach the houses and then immediately right onto Chemin du Moulin. Cross the Saint-Nicolas on a footbridge, follow the path that runs alongside pastures, and walk along a beautiful pond.

(11) 100 m after the pond, turn right, walk along a cultivated field, and turn left before the wetland and the small wood. You will arrive at the D31.

(12) Follow it to the right and, at the roundabout, turn right, continue on the D11, cross the Saint-Nicolas again and arrive at the Larivière town hall (S/E).
Admire the beautiful photos of farriers on the left as you arrive in Larivière.

The signpost shows a blue and green S for "sentier" (path). It represents the river that gives the town its name, the three waterways that cross the village, and the surrounding meadows. The dark green ring represents the circular route and the wooded environment.

Worth a visit

In 1741, Larivière became a parish, to which Lagrange was attached in 1774. The current church, dedicated to Saint Quirin, was built between 1758 and 1789. (source: Wikipedia).

Near the church, look for the memorial to General Beuret, who died in the Battle of Montebello in 1859.

The beautiful photos of farriers are on the left as you arrive in Larivière. Given their size, you can't miss them. The photos highlight the last farrier, Paul Chappet, who settled there in 1919 and shoed many animals.

The Margrabant is a stream about 7 km long that you will cross several times.

The Saint Nicolas: a river approximately 30 km long. It rises at an altitude of 800 m near Rougemont le Chateau and flows into the Madeleine at Autrechêne to form the Bourbeuse.

The Ruisseau de l'Étang Virgie is approximately 3 km long.
