From Montignac (Lascaux), Les Eyzies or Sarlat via the D706, once you reach Peyzac-le-Moustier, a few hundred metres from La Roque Saint-Christophe, take the D6. After 5.5 km, you’ll reach the entrance to Plazac, at the car park for the community hall.
(S/E) On leaving the car park, turn right, cross the Route Principale (D6) and walk up Place des Platanes to Rue des Forges.
(1) Turn right and, immediately, take the path on the left. Walk uphill to the ‘du Vignal’ cross on the left. The path continues with a gentle bend to the left and begins to descend towards the stream. This narrow descent is supported by an old stone wall. Cross the stream and you’ll come to a road.
(2) Turn right, continue until you’re walking alongside the lake and, before the campsite buildings, turn left (yellow marker). Here, a rocky, uphill path begins, leading to a short plateau. Pass a building on the left, then another on the right, to reach the Pranze farm. Take a right-hand bend and continue to the stop sign.
(3) At the stop sign, turn left onto the Route des Canons for 100 metres (this is a county road, so take care when using it), then turn right onto the limestone track marked ‘Chemin du Château d’Eau’. At the first junction, carry onstraight ahead until you reach a small tarmac road
(4) Turn right onto the small tarmac road, following the wooden signpost marked ‘Plazac via Moulin à Vent’. You’ll come to a junction with Route des Canons, which you’ll recognise: cross it to reach the opposite side, continuing along Chemin de Boscarra, and carry on until you reach the stop sign.
(5) At the stop sign, cross the departmental road carefully, keeping to your right and then immediately turning left onto the Chemin de Fontlanier. When you reach a Fork in the road, continue along the path that descends to the right into the valley, then follow this path past some lovely walnut trees until you reach a junction.
(6) Turn right and follow the stream. After 800 metres, turn right and cross over the stream. Turn left and continue to the departmental road. Cross the departmental road and carry straight on along the Route du Moulin du Peuch, towards Fanlac.
(7) Turn right below the castle onto the Chemin de Fontatou and walk past the entrance to a house. First turn right then left; after a straight stretch, take a path keeping to the right; shortly afterwards, turn right again into a steep, stony bend. Follow the path as it winds. At the top of the climb, the castle will be down below on your right. Take one final left-hand bend and you’ll reach a Fork in the road.
(8) Head down to La Goulette via the path on the right, then head towards “le Belet”. Just as the road enters the woods, leave it by taking the path on the left which runs alongside the field (before the road crosses the stream). You’ll walk alongside the trees, then the path passes between grassy plots. A cluster of houses appears on your left and the path becomes covered in limestone. Continue along this path to the Plazac washhouse
(9) When you reach the tarmac road, follow it to the right, cross the bridge, then carry on straight ahead towards the car park (S/E).
