Park in the car park at the foot of the Casserousse chairlift (1,400 m)
(S/E) At the far end of the car park, take the forest path. After a fairly steep climb, stepping over a few fallen fir trees blocking the path, you will reach a crossroads of paths.
(1) Take the path on the left and, shortly afterwards, you’ll join the GR®738.
(2) Turn right onto it and follow the red and white markings. You will reach Lac des Pourettes.
(3) Continue along the GR® until you reach the Robert Lakes.
(4) Walk between the various lakes. After passing the small hut, take the path that climbs up to the left. You’ll emerge at the Col des Lessines.
(5) Follow signs for Croix de Chamrousse to reach the Col de la Botte.
(6) Turn right towards the Col des Trois Fontaines.
(7) Head towards the Himalayan footbridge, cross it and continue on to the Belledonne viewpoint.
(8) Turn back towards the Himalayan footbridge, then take the path leading down to the left. Follow the chairlift line to reach the Lacs Robert.
(9) Turn left, follow the edge of the large lake and continue the descent. Carry on along the path towards the Couloir de Casserousse. This section is rockier, with several sections where you’ll need to climb over rocks of varying sizes. You’ll reach the junction at Lac Levetel.
(10) Turn right to begin the descent down the couloir. This is a black run, but the descent does not present any major technical difficulties in good conditions. Cross the GR®738 before reaching a final junction in the meadow.
(11) Here you have two options:
- turn right and return to the original junction. There, turn left onto the route you took on the way there to return to the Casserousse car park (S/E),
- keep left – this is the route shown on the map – follow the chairlift run, then return to the Casserousse car park (S/E).
