Rocks and surroundings of Lac de Pierre Percée

A lovely, easy circular walk that takes you successively to the Roches de la Xaveure, the rugged shores of Lac de Pierre Percée and the Roche des Corbeaux with its beautiful viewpoint. The return journey follows part of the same route to Les Roches Bataillons, ending at the starting point at Les Trois Sapins.

Description of the walk

Park in the car park at Les Trois Sapins, on the D182.

Blue Cross signposting

(S/E) Head towards Les Roches de la Xaveure. Pass the intersection with a forest path and, after 100 m, take the path opposite marked "La Xaveure". Continue to the next intersection.

Red ring signposting

(1) Take the path on the right marked "Roches de la Xaveure". Follow this narrow path down to the foot of the rock barrier (a series of huge rocks). At the end of the rock barrier, the path winds down to the wide forest path below.

Green disc signpost

(2) Continue right on the forest path that runs along the lake and reach the place called La Grande Combe.

(3) Turn left onto a marked trail towards Basse Nangoutte. This will take you to the place of the same name.

(4) Take the path on the left, which curves around, and continue over the wooden bridge towards Pré Barbier. The path crosses the forest track leading to the Cabanes du Lac de Pierre Percée (on the left, private property). Continue straight ahead for 100 m and turn left towards Pré Barbier.

(5) The trail runs along the wooden fence of the private area, then continues along the lake to reach the viewpoint at the end of the cove. Continue to reach the Belvédère above the lake (a good place to stop).

(6) Continue along the lake on your left and reach the place called Pré Barbier (where you can stop for a break).

(7) Continue along the lake towards the Roche des Corbeaux.

(8 ) Keep going on the path along the lake until you reach a fork.

No signposts (option 2).

(9) There are two options here (which can be combined to make a loop instead of a round trip):
1) Take the left-hand path (green sign) and follow the lake shore to Roche des Corbeaux (longer route).
2) As shown on the map, take the right-hand path. You will immediately come to a stony path; follow it to the left for about 1 km.

(10) Continue on the left-hand path, ignoring those on the right, until you reach the amusement park car park.

(11) Take the path to the left of the amusement park towards Roche des Corbeaux. Then take the marked path on the right. Pass a wooden shelter on the left to reach the Roche des Corbeaux viewpoint.

(12) Retrace your steps to reach the initial crossroads. N.B. You can join the marked Disque Vert trail to the north and follow it to the left, along the lake, to return to the same crossroads.

(8) Take the path on the left. Reach the forest road and follow it for about 100 metres. Then take the path on the right (marked with a yellow mountain bike sign) until you reach a junction.

Blue signpost

(13) Turn left until you reach the Route de la Ceinture Verte. Cross it carefully and continue straight ahead on the forest path downhill until you reach a fork.

Yellow ring signpost

(14) Turn right and continue along the little-used path. Pass the Roches Bataillons, which stretch out on the right in several places, and reach the D182 road.

No markings

(15) Cross it carefully, turn right, and go up the D182 for about 200 m. Reach and enter the large car park on the left to join a trail on the right.

Blue Cross signpost

(16) Continue along this forest path and cross the D182 carefully to reach the Les Trois Sapins car park opposite (S/E).

To avoid going back and forth, at point 9 I chose the path along the lake shore (green disc markings) to the Corbeaux rock (where I needed the app to find my way) then went back down to the car park and took the path on the right (marked with orange mountain bike signs no. 7), which you don't need to leave at point 9 and which takes you to point 13. At point 14, the trail marked with a yellow ring towards the Roches Bataillons is so little used that I missed it and retraced my steps (using the GPS again). There is a lot of grass where ticks are sure to be proliferating: long trousers are strongly recommended!!! A fallen tree partially blocks the path, and I had to climb over it with some difficulty.
In any case, it was a beautiful walk in the shade which, according to my smartphone, was 19 km long with the optional route...
Thanks to Visorandonneur!
