Description of the walk

Park at the side of the Pas d'Aval road and take the path known as Pra Douchier.

(S/E)Follow this path to the Y-junction at a bench.

(1) Continue on the left-hand track until you reach the Crête chairlift, heading towards Lac de Puy Aillaud.

(2) Take the track that climbs towards the ridge until you reach the second pylon and find a path on the left that leads towards the larch forest.

(3) Follow this path through woods and pastures until you reach a crossroads with directional signs.

(4) Turn onto the path that descends towards Puy-Aillaud to Chaterlard (small chalet and ruins of old dwellings).

(5) Enter the pasture and go around the chalet on the left to reach the woods. Find a path that descends to the left, before the paragliding take-off area, and follow it.

(6) At the T-junction, take the path on the left, continue to the village, ignoring the path on the left that climbs towards La Blanche, and turn left when you reach the village. Return to the Pas d'Aval road (S/E).

Notes

Between (3) and (4), there will be several electric fences, some with opening mechanisms. Don't forget to close them behind you. The trail is moderately well maintained. There are some overgrown rosehip bushes and nettles.

N.B.: few signposts. Some paths will need to be found.

Worth a visit

There is some winter sports equipment, but it does not spoil the walk.

Numerous viewpoints over the sloping valleys and neighbouring peaks.

A pleasant and easy loop, which I covered in sections.
Between 5 and 6, you can walk a few extra metres to see the paragliding take-off areas.
(Between 2 and 3, you can also do an easy round trip to the reservoir, but then it's no longer a loop...).
