Departure from the Monieux lake.
(S/E) From the lake, join the D942 via the small tarmac road
(1) Take the D942 to the lower part of the village of Monieux, near the old post office building.
(2) Cross the bridge over the Nesque river and head towards Saint-Jean-de-Durefort, opposite, following the yellow markings on the path between the houses. Reach the small Saint-Roch Chapel by crossing an uphill grassy area. Be sure to push open the door to see the old frescoes and Latin inscriptions above the door. Continue to the Le Défens signpost.
(3) Continue to the right (south) until you reach the Champ de Courruoux signpost.
(4) Turn left towards Saint-Jean, then after about 200 metres, turn right (elevation 821). You will soon notice the ruins of an old mill. This is a very pleasant spot with Mont Ventoux in the background. Head towards the village of Saint-Jean-de-Durefort, which is about 200 metres away.
(5) Cross the small D230 road to visit the village, turning right for 50 metres and smiling at the original names of the squares and streets, such as "Place de l'Abeille Assoiffée" (Thirsty Bee Square).
(6) Continue straight ahead on the D230 for 300 metres, and don't miss the chapel and wash house (unfortunately without water) at the junction with the D943. Cross the road and continue straight ahead for another 300 metres, leaving a road on your left.
(7) At the large cement signpost at the exit of the hamlet of Les Courtois, turn right onto theGR®9towards Grand Jean. At thesecond three-way junction, go right and follow the red and white markings.
(8) Just before crossing the D943, turn right along a fence that encloses the Grand Jean farm.
(9) Two cairns mark a left turn, continuing along a beautiful shaded path. This is still theGR®9. Continue to the Gaveau signpost.
(10) Leave theGR® and turn right onto slightly more open ground. Descend to the left towards the tarmac road, which you follow to the left for 200 m (two bends) heading south until you reach the first path on the right.
(11) After a large circular loop to the right (elevation 727), the path climbs up to the right (north). Do not cross the chain put in place by the owner of the Ferme de la Font de Jean (private property), but descend to the right into the Vallon du Peissonnier.
(12) Turn left into this valley and then join a good path on the right-hand side of the Nesque, which leads back to the lake where you started (S/E).
