Belisama Circular Loop

A beautiful view of Villamblard and Pouyol Castle; you pass through two hamlets, and for the rest of the way it’s woods, woods, woods. Few roads but plenty of tracks. Sometimes a bit monotonous...

Description of the walk

Park in the car park at Place des Frères Thurmel, at the foot of the church. You can find a map of the walk there (yellow markings).

(S/E) With the church on your right, cross the D4 road and take the path opposite, which climbs alongside a fence. At the end, turn left, then right onto a road until you reach a junction.

(1) Cross a small road and take the path opposite which descends into the woods. When you reach a road, turn right towards the hamlet of Chabinet.

(2) After the first left-hand bend, leave the road at the second bend and take the DFCI track on the far left. Follow it to the next junction, where you’ll pass the turn-off to the Issac circular loop on your right.

(3) Turn left towards Gammareix and join a road.

(4) Turn left onto it (no signposting). Up on the right, you can see the ESAT (Établissement et Service d’Aide par le Travail) run by the Papillons Blancs de Bergerac association, which employs people with disabilities in the agri-food sector and produces and sells local specialities. Continue to the Minières crossroads.

(5) You can see an old signalman’s house. It was situated on the Angoulême–Marmande railway line, which ran through Ribérac, Mussidan, Bergerac and Eymet. Opened in stages from 1886, it was closed, also in stages, from 1938. Take the road on the left, then, after about 200 m, the track on the right which joins the (D4). Cross carefully and continue along the track opposite.

(6) After about a hundred metres, turn left onto the DFCI Villamblard Beleymas track (no signpost, but a discreet yellow marker on a tree). Continue to the next junction.

(6) Turn onto the track on the left, reach a road and follow it to the right for 100 m.

(7) Take the path on the left after the marker (do not turn towards the beehives). When you reach the road, turn left. View of Villamblard in the distance and Pouyol Castle (19th century).

(8) Follow the road down to the village. Opposite the town hall, turn right and return to the car park (S/E).

A walk mainly through the woods. Best done in good weather as it’s a lovely spot, and there are no particular difficulties.

A few slightly muddy sections (path churned up by wild boars)
Very quiet, no busy roads.
Towards the end of the route, we passed through a farm, a family-run business selling local produce...
Very nice.

I enjoyed this walk because it was entirely through the woods, with a wide path where you can let your dog run free
