Park at Le Rozel in the large car park on the southern edge of the château.
(S/E) Opposite the car park, take part ofthe GR®223by turning west onto the small Rue du Moulin. At the end, continue right on the tarmac road, which ends at a stream at a place called l'Écluse.
(1) Continue on theGR® trail, turning left towards the north to reach an intersection a few hundred metres further on. Keep left on theGR® trail. Leave it when it turns right and continue straight ahead to reach the beach.
(2) Take the beach on the left to the slipway at Camping Le Ranch.
(3) Leave the beach and walk along the campsite for about a hundred metres, then turn right. You will rejoin theGR®223and its red and white markings. Turn right and follow the gentle climb to the La Maris Stella statue and Cap du Rozel.
(4) Go behind the statue and then between the two large rocks a little further down to rejoin the path. Go around Cap du Rozel and you will come out onto the long beach leading from Surtainville to Cap de Carteret.
Continue on theGR® and descend to the Palaeolithic site of Le Rozel, where there are several information panels.
(5) Continue on theGR® for about ten metres, then leave it and continue opposite on the Trompe Souris tarmac road until you reach the junction with the D517, 500 metres further on. Turn left and follow it uphill until after thesecond bend. Then turn right onto the small tarmac road, which continues as a dirt track, and follow it to the end. You will reach the hamlet of Au Roy.
(6) Take the path opposite, which descends through the bocage and fields to the village of Le Rozel. When you reach Le Rozel, turn right and cross the village to reach the car park of the Château de Rozel (S/E).
. Be careful at the Starfish statue, as you need to go down the path behind it. There's no crêperie or place to get a drink at the bar/crêperie at Rozel Castle: we were turned away at 6.30pm with the excuse that they were setting the tables and it was reservation only. That's a bit harsh for 16 August when there was no one there!
