Description of the walk

The walk starts at the Diélette marina. A large car park offers plenty of space, even in July. The start point is next to the brasserie overlooking the marina.

(S/E) Head south along the promenade that circles the harbour, allowing you to avoid the main road.

(1) Just before the southern jetty, a small road climbs to the left towards the hamlet of Diélette. Follow it for 300 m. Note the row of pretty Norman houses built from local stone, as well as the superb view of the harbour and the sea.

(2) Take the second road up to the left, Chemin de Vaumille. This small road climbs steeply and joins the D4 road leading to Flamanville. Cross it carefully, continuing in the same direction to reach the hamlet of Métot. Note the buildings and the farmhouse on the left, both in very good condition and built from local stone.

(3) Carry on and, after a bend, the small road turns into a sunken lane that winds through the countryside before reaching the hamlet of Le Bois, then joins the fairly busy road (D23).

(4) Cross this road carefully, veering to the right, then take the small path immediately to the left, which quickly reaches the hamlet of Bourget and continues along a small road. Keep going in the same direction. The road crosses three small streams which, a little further on, form the River Diélette, and arrives at a junction in front of a huge farmhouse.

(5) Take the D65 to the left and, from here, follow the signs for Lodge l’Épinerie. To do this, at the three-way junction, leave the road that continues to the right uphill, then keep right at the next junction and left at the following one. Continue along the path that climbs steeply after the lodge and reach a Stop sign (D4). Turn left and go for about fifty metres.

(6) Then turn right onto theD4E1, towards Siouville. Pass the small road leading to Siouville on the right, then take the first small road on the left (a single-track lane) a little further on. Continue straight on, passing two paths on the left, then, at the crossroads, continue straight on. Don’t miss the superb views on the right. At the end of the road, go past a hairpin bend and continue along a path down to the hamlet of Les Banques, which overlooks a bay and the sea.

(7) Take the coastal path on the left. This is theGR® trail. Follow the path for 2 km, enjoying magnificent views of the sea. You will arrive at the marina at Diélette (S/E).

Notes

There are few paths and junctions along this walk, making it easy to follow.
At the marina, there is a brasserie serving meals. There is also a bar offering snacks.
When you pass the marina’s toilets (a small building before the bridge over the Diélette) and cross the road, a small road leads 600 m to a restaurant that is well worth a visit.
No refreshments available along the route.

Worth a visit

Although the Diélette marina is adjacent to the Flamanville nuclear power station, the surrounding countryside is magnificent and unspoilt. Charming hamlets with smart houses built from local stone add to the appeal of this walk.
Don’t miss the views of the countryside and the sea. A hike to remember.

A lovely walk
Remember to wear sturdy shoes in wet weather, as there are many slippery patches caused by tractors on the paths (but that’s part of the charm of the countryside 😉)

A pleasant little walk through the countryside and along the coast.
A tricky start, as it’s not always easy to find your way (point 1: the small road is Rue du Vieux Port), but after that you just need to follow
Make sure you wear suitable footwear for muddy conditions (if it has rained in the previous days)
A quiet path but easily walkable; a change of scenery guaranteed

We used the route map, and we quickly got lost at point 2 (cross the D4 and carry on in the same direction?). That was it.
