Description of the walk

Parking is available on Rue du Général de Gaulle near the Relais des Cimes.
You can reach the start point by bus on the Estival line 83.
Start at the end of the village of Hell-Bourg at the junction of Rue du Général de Gaulle and Rue Olivier Manes.

(S/E) Walk down Rue du Général de Gaulle towards the old Hell-Bourg thermal baths on the right.
Opened in 1852, the spa was decommissioned in the 1930s.

(1) Cross the Rivière du Bras-Sec by fording, as the metal bridge is no longer passable, then head back up to the RD48. Turn right onto it and follow it for 100 m before turning left towards Ilet à Vidot. Continue the climb along the Chemin de Manouih and then the Chemin de Terre Plate, which becomes increasingly steep, much like the hiking trails on Réunion.

(2) Once you reach the Kiosque de la Vierge, a break is in order. Enjoy the beautiful view of the village of Hell-Bourg and the Cirque de Salazie. Continue along the path towards Terre Plate.

(3) Head back down to the left via the Sentier du Cap Anglais, which leads to the viewpoint kiosk where you can take a break.

(4) Continue the fairly technical descent towards Hell-Bourg. Pass the Stade Paul Dominique Huvert and continue along the Sentier du Gymnase, then Rue Olivier Manes to return to the starting point (S/E).

Very beautiful hike.
The views and vegetation are extraordinary.
But be warned, it's not that easy. The final descent can be challenging.

An interesting hike through the cryptomeria forest once you reach the plateau. The climb and descent are a little steep, as is always the case in the cirques of Réunion, but they are dotted with guava trees, which were ripe when we visited (mid-July). Walking on a carpet of tree roots in almost complete silence is a wonderful experience (except when you come across a hiker with his speaker on full blast...). The trail is clear and reliable.
