Ouroux loop via Le Plessis and the Voie du Tacot

The first part of this route allows you to discover part of the commune of Ouroux-en-Morvan, passing through the hamlet of Le Plessis, then Savelot. The second part of the route takes you along the Chemin du Tacot, a single track road that ran from Corbigny to Seaulieu. You will pass the old Cœuzon station and the bridge-tunnel over the Chalaux river. You will also have the opportunity to see an almost identical full-size replica of the old Tacot locomotive. You will continue under arches covered in vegetation and finish by walking alongside the Étang d'Ouroux lake. In front of the village hall, you can also admire the blue carriage, which is unique in that it has the same metre gauge as the Tacot.

Description of the walk

The trail starts in front of the village hall in Ouroux-en-Morvan. The trail is marked with a "départ" sign.

(S/E) Opposite the village hall, turn right towards the Étang d'Ouroux.

(1) Before reaching the lake, turn left onto Chemin du Plessis, which is located just before the road towards Montsauche-les-Settons, and continue straight ahead. At the end of the road, cross the road towards Montsauche-les-Settons and arrive at the road towards Le Plessis.

(2) Take this road on the right and continue straight ahead, staying on the road to arrive in the hamlet of Le Plessis.

(3) At the intersection of Chemin des Milleries and Chemin Fontessot, take the road on the right and continue straight ahead (go down to the bottom of Le Plessis). Stay on the same road, ignoring the roads on the right. For information, you will pass the last house in Le Plessis, which is on the left. At the next intersection, turn right. Be careful, the slope is quite steep. Continue to the bottom.

(4) Turn left, then right to cross the bridge over the Chalaux. At the next intersection, turn right onto Route du Tournant du Puits and continue to Savelot.

(5) Take the road on the left towards the military cemetery. Pass the intersection and turn at the stream. Continue to the path with a sign depicting a locomotive.

(6) From here, follow this type of signposting. You will arrive at Cœuzon station.

(7) Turn right onto the road that goes downhill and is indicated by a sign (double arrow with a locomotive). At the next intersection, go up to the left without taking the road, towards the tunnel bridge, and take it, turning right.

(8) There is a picture of a locomotive on the tunnel bridge. Continue straight ahead and go through the manual and automatic barriers.

(9) When you reach the path, after passing through the pine forest, take the track on the right and continue straight ahead until you reach Route de Cœuzon. Follow it to the right, keeping to the signs, until you reach the next fork.

(10) Take the road on the left towards the Étang d'Ouroux and follow it straight ahead to reach the crossroads you came from.

(1) Cross the Route de Montsauche towards the starting point to arrive at the village hall in Ouroux-en-Morvan (S/E).

Notes

There is free parking right next to the town hall and on either side of the village hall.
As for the walk, normal walking gear should suffice.
Here are a few important reminders:

  • in the second part of the route, from the point (6) on the Chemin du Tacot, keep dogs on a leash. This is because when you pass through the barriers that have been put in place, you will be entering fields where cattle may be grazing.
  • make sure your shoes provide good ankle support, as part of the Chemin du Tacot still has loose gravel on the surface. It is therefore advisable to bring a walking stick and to ensure that your shoes are waterproof, as depending on the season, some parts of the Chemin du Tacot can be quite wet due to springs.
  • throughout the second part of the Chemin du Tacot, you will find posts with QR codes providing additional information about the immediate environment.

Very busy route : Yes

Varied and pleasant route
Many small ascents and descents
A less pleasant section on the way back to Ouroux with railway ballast covered in leaves, requiring caution
But in the end, we were rewarded when we arrived at dusk, with a view of the mirror-like pond and the sky reflected on its surface

It may be a short route, but it's well worth the detour.
