Park in the car park at the Vyans-le-Val cemetery.
(S/E) Start the walk by taking Rue des Cerisiers (D204 towards Héricourt), then turn left into Rue des Faux and continue straight on once you reach Rue des Vignes.
(1) At this point, on your right is the Domaine aux Cerfs (a magnificent building, a ranch/guesthouse) and on your left the Parc aux Cerfs (if the deer are not in the park, they are in a second enclosure at the back of the ranch, visible from the field just beyond on the right).
After admiring the does and stags, continue along the tarmac road almost to the end. On the right, between two fields, take the dirt track leading to the Bois du Roi.
(2) A few metres after entering the woods, at the junction of four paths, turn right onto the stony path. Then turn left at the first junction.
(3) Go through the tunnel under the high-speed rail line and, once you emerge, continue straight ahead. From here, there is a viewpoint overlooking Héricourt. Keep going straight along the path through the Bois des Épenottes.
(4) At the first major junction, turn left and continue straight on to pass under the high-speed rail line again via the woodland path; just beneath the viaduct, there is an information panel explaining the construction of the high-speed rail line. Then, continue straight on along the same path towards the south until you find yourself near Vyans-le-Val once more.
(5) Turn right to join a path that follows the boundary between Haute-Saône and Doubs, and follow it to the left.
(6) At the Corne junction, turn left to head back down towards Vyans-le-Val and follow the path until you reach the area near the football pitch.
(7) Turn left to stay in the forest a little longer. Follow the path until you see the deer again.
(8) Continue straight ahead instead of following the main path down towards the village. Further on, on the right, you can take a short detour to see the Tante Airie cave (also known as Arie). Then rejoin the road to head towards the village centre.
(9) At the church, turn right, then continue by taking Rue des Dandeligeons on the right, towards the Town Hall. Do not hesitate to take a short detour to the left to admire the magnificent wash house and, if you look closely, the crayfish in the wash house and the stream.
Then follow Rue des Dandeligeons, then turn left onto Rue d’Etrimolet, which bends left further on and runs parallel to the main road.
(10) At the end of Rue d’Etrimolet, turn left into Rue du Noyeu, then take the first right at the school, Impasse de la Varenne. At the end of the cul-de-sac, there is a tiny footpath behind the cemetery which then leads to the end of the walk via Impasse du Milieu (S/E).
