Description of the walk

Departure from Luzarches station.
- Access by train: terminus of one of the sections of the H line departing from Paris-Nord station. Timetables: see the Transilien website.
- By car: park in the station car park (limited capacity) or in the adjacent streets.

(S/E) With your back to the station, turn right onto Boulevard de la Fraternité. At the end, turn right into Rue Vivien.

(1) Just before the railway line, take thesecond left, Chemin du Vauvouard, and follow the railway line on your right. Ignore a bridge on the right-hand side and, further on, go under the D922 bridge. Continue along the path, carry on along the tarmac and pass in front of Seugy station.

(2) At the junction, turn left onto Chemin des Rouliers and head uphill.

(3) At the top of the hill, turn right onto a path that leads downhill (GR® red and white markings). Take a footbridge over the railway line, then turn left onto Ruelle du Four.

(4) At the end, turn left onto Rue de la Fontaine. After the last houses, continue along Chemin de la Madeleine.

(5) At the next junction, turn left uphill. Cross another footbridge over the railway line. Pass under a high-voltage power line, cross a road and continue straight ahead. Ignore the turnings on the right and you will come to a road (Chemin des Réservoirs).

(6) Turn right onto thefirst path after the road (Chemin de la Justice) and follow the railway line on your right; at the level crossing, cross it and turn immediately left to reach Viarmes station.

(7) Continue straight on along Avenue Foch. Head downhill to a roundabout. Go round it on the left and take the path on the other side. At the Fork in the road that appears shortly afterwards, turn right and continue downhill. You’ll reach the tarmac road at Rue de Verdun.

(8) Then turn left into Ruelle Saint-Pierre and pass the fountain of the same name. You’ll come out onto Rue des Caboissons; follow it to the right. Cross a street on the left then turn left into Ruelle de l'Auge. Cross Ruelle du Marais on the left, come out onto Rue Saint-Martin du Tertre and follow it to the left. At the next junction, keep right into Rue de la Fontaine d'Amour.

(9) After about 200 m, turn left onto Chemin du Grand Sentier, which climbs through the woods (GR®1, red and white markings). At the crossroads (car park), continue straight ahead onto a descending path. Walk alongside an orchard on your left and you will reach Rue des Frileuses.

(10) Follow the road to the right and pass in front of the Château de Touteville. At the T-junction, turn right into Rue Pierre Brossolette. At the next junction, turn left onto Rue de Touteville. At the roundabout, follow the Route de Royaumont to the right and immediately ignore the Grande Rue on the right. Continue straight on until you reach a junction with the Route de Boran on the right-hand side.

(11) Then turn left. Cross the D922 at the pedestrian crossing on the left (take great care, as it is a busy road). Continue straight ahead and pass under a high-voltage power line. Further on, pass under another high-voltage power line and arrive at a crossroads.

(12) Take the path on the right. Ignore a path on the left; you’ll come to a small road and follow it to the right until you reach the D909.

(13) Follow it to the left. Walk alongside a pond on your left and, at the end, take a small road to the right. Continue straight on to the abbey car park.

(14) After the car park, take the path on the left (Allée de la Reine Hortense) and arrive at Baillon (Asnières-sur-Oise).

(15) At the junction, turn right onto Rue des Marais; further on, follow the Ysieu on your right; at the end of this street, turn right onto Rue Santiago Soulos (on the left, behind the walls, is the Château du Baillon, which once belonged to Queen Hortense); then, at the edge of the forest, take the second path on the right and you will reach the Blue Cross crossroads.

(16) Head due south, taking thethird path on the right, the Route de la Chaussée du Roi. Continue straight on, due south. Leave the woods, reach a road and follow it to the left. Cross a stream and head slightly uphill.

(17) At the top, turn sharply right onto a path. At thefirst house, turn left onto a path that climbs along the edge of the woods. Continue in this direction until you reach the D922.

(18) Turn left just before the tunnel that goes under the road. Walk along the D922 on your right, then along an access ramp. You will reach a roundabout.

(19) Then turn left onto Allée des Cerisiers. Pass the post office and cross Allée de la Grenouille on the right-hand side. Immediately afterwards, take a path on the right.

(20) At the T-junction, turn right. The path on the right soon becomes Rue des Chatons. Go straight on and continue along Rue du Poirier aux Chats. At the end, cross Route des Bruyères then turn right to reach Luzarches station (S/E).

The route is actually quite long and the signposts aren’t easy to follow. There are many yellow markings corresponding to other routes that criss-cross each other. It would also be helpful to provide some landmarks to estimate the approximate distance between two stages. For example, if you ‘follow the road’ and ‘come across a stream’, it would be useful to specify ‘after about 600 metres, you’ll come across a stream’. Furthermore, there are many sections within the town.
Allow an extra 1½ hours for the guided tour of the abbey.

Thank you for this lovely, varied route: forests, fields, villages, and a stop at Royaumont Abbey. There were no particular difficulties. We were a group of 15 people and everyone really enjoyed it.

It was perfect. I did the hike on my own first, just to get the hang of it. The following week, I took ‘my group’ there. Everything went really well. Thank you.
