Description of the walk

The route starts from the square in front of Barr station.

(S/E) With your back to the station, head left then turn right to cross Route du Hohwald with care. Then walk straight up Rue Bannscheid until it joins Rue Rotland (D362).

(1) Cross carefully ( no pedestrian crossing) and continue straight ahead onto a small road which becomes a vineyard path marked with a Blue Cross.

(2) At the T-junction, turn right, following the Blue Cross markings, cross the vineyard and enter the woodland. You will come to a junction with a path marked with a Red Disc; turn right and follow it for a few dozen metres.

(3) Leave the main track to the left to follow the path marked with a Red Disc. Leave this path at a hairpin bend and continue straight ahead, then take a left-hand bend to reach the Col du Crax.

(4) Head towards Rocher Saint-Richarde, following the Red Ring markings. At the junction, turn left to quickly reach Rocher Sainte-Richarde.

(5) Return to the junction then follow the path opposite, marked with the Yellow Ring, towards Château d'Andlau. Emerge at the Silberberg crossroads and first turn right then left to continue following the Yellow Ring markings leading directly to Château d'Andlau.

(6) Head left to enter the castle grounds and walk around them.

(6) Turn left, following the Red Saltire. Further on, the path turns right towards the east: keep going in this direction until you reach the junction with a path marked with a Yellow Cross.

(7) Head left and follow these markings to cross the bridge over the Kirneck and reach the Tollenloch Forest House.

(8) Behind the house, take a path that runs alongside a sloping meadow and heads uphill until you reach a crossroads.

(9) Follow the path marked with a Blue Disc, which climbs to the right towards Landsberg Castle. You will reach the Muller-Apfell crossroads.

(10) Continue straight ahead, following the Blue Disc. Cross the forest road, take the path opposite and join the Sentier des Chameaux.

(11) Continue straight ahead, following the Blue Disc, and head towards Landsberg Castle.

(12) Turn left and enter the castle grounds, walking around them before returning to the junction.

(12) Take the path leading down to the left (with your back to the castle), still marked with the Blue Disc. Join the GR®5, marked with a Red Rectangle.

(13) Turn right, keep right at the three-way junction, then take the sharp left-hand bend to reach a junction.

(14) Head straight ahead, turn left at the Petit Kiosque then turn right again about a hundred metres further on. You’ll reach the car park of the former Maison Forestière du Moenkalb.

(15) Continue straight ahead along the road.

(16) Turn right towards the vineyard. Pass close to the Kirchberg leisure area and head straight down to the orientation table.

(17) Then take the vineyard path on the left, which leads onto a road; follow this to the left until you reach a small vineyard hut.

(18) Turn left, stay on the road which takes a sharp left-hand bend and leads to the Protestant Church of Saint-Martin and the adjoining cemetery.

(19) Turn right, take the steps on the left and follow Rue de l’Église to the right. Turn left into Rue des Bouchers, then right into Rue des Maréchaux. Continue straight on until you reach Grand Rue.

(20) Turn left to follow this street. Opposite the “À la Maison Rouge” hotel, turn right then left onto Avenue Docteur Marcel Krieg. You will come out onto Rue de l’Hôpital; turn right and head towards the roundabout.

(21) Go round the roundabout on the left, cross at the pedestrian crossing and head towards Rue de la Gare to return to the starting point (S/E).

A lovely route that I was lucky enough to enjoy in glorious weather with a friend. The route was varied, alternating between vineyards at the start and end, and bright, spring-green forests, not to mention the two castles.
As it was the school holidays, the trail was quiet.
The route description is clear and easy to follow.
