Description of the walk

Park in the car park below the church next to the stadium or, failing that, in the centre of the village of Bonnefamille.

(S/E) Enter the football stadium, go round it on the right and follow the path downhill. Turn right then head back up on the left. Walk alongside the D36 using the protected pedestrian area. Cross the road carefully to reach La Garenne on the opposite side.

(1) Continue straight on along the road to the multi-way junction at the edge of the woods. Take the path on the left which climbs up and leads you to the Chavant plateau. Go round the property and head back down alongside the fields to reach a new Y-junction.

(2) Turn right to head uphill; you’ll see the hydrocarbon storage tanks on your left. Then pass under the power line and rejoin a road at the Grand Bois.

(3) Take it to the left, then turn right to walk alongside the Musée de la Vie Rurale de Saint-Quentin. Cross the St Quentin / Fallavier road and head for the entrance to Fallavier Park.

(4) Here you have two options:
- turn left to walk around Fallavier Pond, adding about 2 km to your route,
- turn right, cross the road again and take the path leading uphill opposite. At the next junction, take the path leading down alongside a field on your left. You will reach the Villefontaine / Bonnefamille road. Follow it to the left for a few metres until you reach a junction of paths.

(5) Turn right onto the path, go under the high-voltage power line and head back down to reach the new Villefontaine cemetery, known as La Rizolière, at the junction with the D36.

(6) Cross the main road very carefully and take the path, slightly to the left when you reach the road. Continue straight ahead and climb up into the woods; take care here as this path can be quite muddy or wet depending on the season. You’ll come to some poplar trees and then a field: stay close to the hedge to respect the crops.
You will reach a wide path.

(7) Turn right and follow this path, which will take you back to the Bonnefamille car park (S/E).

The hiking trail markings are missing, so we followed the young markings from the church where the route is indicated.
There is also a lack of historical information about the route, but we managed to cover part of it over 5 km:
After the church, heading towards En Benoit, is the Cistercian barn, known since around 1150. The roof structure was rebuilt in 1432 and the whole building was restored in 2006. It belonged to the Abbey of Bonnevaux in Villeneuve-de-Marc, founded in 1117 and destroyed during the Revolution.
Then head towards La Rivoire, where you can enjoy a view of the Dent du Chat and the snow-capped Belledonne mountain range in the background.
Return to Bonnefamille through the woods, stopping in front of the cup-marked stone, carved by Neolithic man.
The abandoned house of La Tour overlooks the Étang des Dames, which belonged to the Benedictine priory.
It was destroyed during the Saracen raids in 938, as was the village, whose population was decimated. It took the name Menufamille until 1825.
Originally, Bonnefamille was a Gallo-Roman villa located on the Roman road from Vienne to Milan in the 1st century AD.
It is a pleasant walk along dirt tracks.

A walk through vast fields that are currently being prepared for the upcoming sowing season.
Passing by the Museum of Rural Life in Saint-Quentin-Fallavier, which can be visited on Tuesdays and Fridays.
Continuing along a beautiful field dotted with blue phacelia plants, which have many beneficial properties for the soil and insects.
Thanks to the author for this airy and very well-maintained route.

Great with the Fallavier lake option. I would do it again on a mountain bike
