Circular route to Saint-Suliac via Mont Gareau and Moulin du Tertre

Shortly after setting off, you will come to the oratory, dedicated to the safety of sailors setting out to sea for the banks of Newfoundland. There is a magnificent view of the village, the Rance and the opposite bank as far as the Pont Chateaubriand bridge.

The walk continues along the banks of the Rance to the summit of Mont Gareau, where another viewpoint will surprise you.

Along the way, you can admire two old mills: a windmill overlooking the hill (not open to visitors, as it is on private land) and an old tide mill, built inthe 16th century, which was in operation until the 1940s. An association is working to restore it.

Description of the walk

(S/E) From the car park near the municipal campsite, take Rue de Grainfolet westwards, on the left, and continue until you reach the oratory of the same name.

(1) The oratory offers a beautiful view of the Rance. Continue straight on towards the beach via a sloping path if the tide is low, otherwise take the stony path, which is an alternative route to the banks of the Rance. On the banks of the Rance, follow the GR®34 to Pointe du Mont Gareau/Garrot (two possible spellings), passing by the sailing school.

(2) At the end of the point, take the narrow, steep path that leads left towards the summit. Enjoy the view. Continue straight ahead until you reach a wider, stony path.

(3) Continue straight ahead for about 200 metres and stay on the ridge until you reach Moulin de la Chaise to enjoy another viewpoint.

(4) Retrace your steps.

(3) At the fork you passed on the way up, turn onto the path that descends to the right towards Saint-Suliac. The path leads to a road. Turn right and climb for about 100 metres.

(5) At the crossroads, take the road on the left for 50 metres, then continue slightly to the right along a path through the woods until you reach the D7.

(6) Follow it to the left, then turn right onto the first path towards Champ Orain and continue to the D117, which you should follow to the right.

(7) At the sign indicating the exit from the town, turn left onto the path towards La Rance and continue for about 1.2 km.

(8) Turn onto the dirt track that climbs slightly to the left for about 100 metres, continue on the left towards the stadium and take the first right until you reach Route du Puits. Turn right towards the campsite and go around it, leaving it on your left. The starting car park is located shortly after (S/E).
