Banks of the Marne between Ambrières and La Neuville-au-Pont

Start from the car park at Place de la Mairie (war memorial).

(S/E) With your back to the war memorial, turn right and, at the fork, turn right again (D560), towards Perthes. After about 50 metres, follow a path on the right that leads down to the wash house. Return to the D560, follow it to the right and cross the bridge over the Marne.

(1) As you leave the bridge, take the path immediately on the right. Immediately ignore a turn-off on the left and head towards the river. Continue along the path, first alongside the Marne and then through gravel pits. At the junction, go straight on.

(2) At the T-junction, follow the Chemin des Patis to the right. Stay on the main path and ignore the side paths. Cross the Ru du Moulinet and you’ll reach a crossroads at the entrance to Hallignicourt.

(3) Turn right onto the D196. At the first junction, follow a small road to the left for about 400m.

(4) Then take the first path on the right. At the junction (elevation 131), go straight on. At the T-junction that follows, turn right to rejoin the D196.

(5) Follow the road to the left and head up to La Neuville-au-Pont. At the junction in the centre of the village, continue straight on towards Les Côtes Noires.

(6) At the next junction, take the second right towards Éclaron. Follow the small road for about 900m.

(7) Then take a path on the right. Further on, the path turns left and runs alongside a stream.

(8) You’ll come out onto the small road from Ambrières to Éclaron; follow it to the right. After about 1.4 km, you’ll reach another road; follow it to the right.

(9) At the junction, first turn left then right and walk past the church. At the end of the street, turn left and walk alongside the cemetery. You will soon come to the Place de la Mairie on your right (S/E).
