Description of the walk

Departure from the "Dauville" car park, Rue du Puits Royau.

(S/E) Take the footbridge over the Marne.

(1) On the other side, go down the stairs on the right and turn right (go under the bridge) onto the path along the river (leave the PR® on your right). Follow the Marne on a cycle path on the left until you reach the Pont de Vergy (formerly known as the Pont Neuf or Pont Napoléon).

(2) First turn right then left to cross the D384 at the traffic lights. Cross a playground and then follow the river.

(3) Leave the Saint-Martin Church on your right and continue along the Marne to the double lock.

(4) First turn right then left to cross Rue Alfred de Musset. Continue to Avenue de la République.

(5) Turn left and then immediately cross the street to the right at the lock. Follow the cycle path parallel to Chemin du Closot and walk along the canal on your right.

(6) Go under the Rue Michelet bridge and continue straight ahead along the canal until you reach the Avenue de Verdun roundabout (Saint-Dizier station on your left).

(7) Cross the avenue and turn right. Immediately turn left and pass the river stop, take the footbridge on the left onto Rue André Theuriet, then immediately turn right onto Quai Camille Desmoulins. Stay on the cycle path, follow the canal, pass under the Avenue Victor Hugo bridge and go up onto the Avenue Alsace Lorraine bridge.

(8) Turn right to take the bridge and cross the canal again. At the roundabout, take the cycle path on the left that runs alongside Rue Judith Resnik. Continue straight ahead. Cross the bridge over the Marne and continue for 300 metres to the former Saint-Panthaléon gatekeeper's house.

(9) Cross Rue Paul Bert and turn right onto the shared pavement/cycle path. Follow Rue Paul Bert and cross the Marne again.

(10) At the traffic lights, turn left into Parc du Jard. Cross the park, staying alongside the Marne.

(11) Exit the park onto Rue Robert Dehault and turn left, still following the banks of the Marne. You will reach a crossroads that you passed at the very beginning of the walk.

(1) Take the footbridge on the left to immediately find the car park of the former "Dauville" on the left (S/E).

Worth a visit

(S/E) Recently developed for various physical activities (pump track, fitness, etc.), Parc du Deauville (named after a former dance hall and popular meeting place for the Bragards) offers late-mown areas planted with young trees along the Marne River.

(2) The Pont-Neuf or Pont-Napoléon. Destroyed in 1940 by the French army to delay the advance of German troops, this bridge was rebuilt in 1950.

(5) The La Noue district, once home to the Mariniers and Brelleurs, who were responsible for floating timber to Paris. The double lock allowed navigation on the Marne and the canal until the early 20th century.

Between (5) and (7) The canal "Between Champagne and Burgundy", a 224 km long structure with some 114 locks.

After (7) The nautical stop. A few dozen metres away stands the tower of the former factories of the famous MIKO ice cream brand, an emblematic witness to the city's industrial past.

Between the point (8) and (9). Converted into a walking and cycling path, the old railway line (which used to transport freight from the foundries in the Blaise valley).

(9) Referring to a former Cistercian abbey for women, Saint-Panthaleon is a former gatekeeper's house.
The Parc du Jard, a place for the Bragards (the name given to the inhabitants of Saint-Dizier) to take a stroll, is planted with a variety of trees and covers three hectares.

A well-marked walk, mostly along the water's edge.
There are numerous entry points to the water, allowing the more adventurous to take a dip.
