From Calvi, take the N197; at the roundabout by Calvi Airport, turn right onto the D81. Further on, at Suare, turn left onto the D251 and park at the end of the road, in the car park of the Bonifatu lodge (S).
To start the hike, return to the road and, at the bridge, turn left onto the path signposted: Mare e Monti Nord. A distinctive feature of the signposting in Corsica for the Mare e Monti and Mare a Mare routes is their orange markings. To reach the end of the stage, simply follow these markings.
Start with a very pleasant climb through the woods amidst Laricio pines; via a series of hairpin bends, reach Bocca di l'Erbaghiolu.
(1) Continue heading due west to reach the day’s highest point, Bocca di Bonanza.
(2) Begin a long descent, cross the Rezza stream and then reach the Polgge stream.
(3) Continue through the Calenzana Moncale Forest, where the scrubland dominates, and follow the contour lines to reach the Bocca di Lucia pass.
(4) Change direction abruptly to head due south, then south-west, to reach the hamlet of Prunicciale.
(5) Continue westwards into Tuarelli and, at the crossroads before the bridge, turn left to reach the stopover lodge on the banks of the Fango (E).
