Boxwood and fountains in Quercy Blanc

A lovely walk through fields and small woods, along paths lined with Causse oaks and box trees. Numerous springs bubble up at the edge of the plateau, forming fountains and wash houses. The limestone outcrops and the colour of the stones used in the houses are characteristic of Quercy Blanc and the Pays de Serres.

Description of the walk

Start at the car park opposite Toufailles Town Hall.
This walk forms part of aPR® route, more or less marked in yellow.

(S/E) Cross the road, turn right to pass in front of the Post Office, then turn right onto Rue de la Vierge and follow it to the left to cross the village.

(1) On leaving the village, take a grassy path on the right, which climbs slightly. This path turns northwards, following the route of the road.

(2) Cross the road carefully and continue uphill towards the hamlet of Lourtal. Reach the D73, turn left then, immediately right, climbing slightly towards the Tuque de Saint-Gervais.

(3) Turn left towards the west onto a dirt track. Cross a road and pass the hamlet of Barry.

(4) At the junction, turn right towards La Cadamière, pass through this hamlet and continue into the Ruisseau d’Aurignac valley. The path runs along the small valley to a road, which you follow to the left for about a hundred metres.

(5) Leave this small road and take a path on the right which climbs up to Lapeyrouse. Pass through this hamlet.

Unmarked

(6) On leaving Lapeyrouse, take a grassy path that climbs gently between the fields, heading south-west.

(7) At the crossroads, turn left towards a small wood. Pass through the hamlet of Borredon, follow the road to the right and pass through Moissaguel. You can make a detour to the chapel at Moissaguel, on the left, as indicated by the route.

(8) On the way back, continue along the road to the left.

(9) At the next junction, turn left towards the south-east onto a path lined with oak trees. Follow it to the road.

Yellow markings resume

(10) Follow it to the right, then, quite soon, turn left onto another tree-lined path. This path leads into the woods and arrives at Le Roudayrou. Follow the road to the right, then keep left at the junction.

(11) Leave the road and take a path on the left, heading down into the woods to cross the Bordemoulis Stream valley. Turn right and climb up the other side.

(12) At the top of the climb, take the road on the left, then, quite soon after, take the path on the right. Continue to the tarmac road, cross it, and walk about fifty metres straight ahead.

(13) Take the path on the right between the fields. Continue to the next road.

(14) Follow it to the right, passing straight through the hamlet of Caterimade.

(15) At the next junction, first turn right then left to take the path down towards the Touffailles Stream valley. On the other side, follow the road to the left and join the main street; follow this to the left to reach the town hall (S/E).

It's a very nice hike.
The description and GPS track are essential because (in the second part of the route) you follow paths through the woods that are not marked on IGN maps but are nevertheless real (the markings are partly faded and difficult to see).
A very pleasant hike in the countryside, passing through typical hamlets of the Quercy Blanc region.
No difficulty
It has rained a lot in recent days, the water is running, there is a little (😂!) mud
But how good it feels to see and hear the water flowing and "singing"...
We love it ❤️
(bring good waterproof shoes and walking sticks)

No signposts. Fortunately, the Visorando app allowed me to follow this

The route is very easy to follow using Visorando, but you need to pay attention at times to find the right path
Three-quarters of the route is under the cover of trees, which is very pleasant.
Beautiful heritage and views

A group hike with 17 people.
Route to be followed using GPS as signposting is partial and/or non-existent, but no problem with the Viso Rando app.
Lovely scenery and villages to explore, around 5 hours’ walk with a picnic at the chapel.
Thank you for suggesting this hike; we had a lovely day, despite the strong wind and winter sun.

An enjoyable route overall, except for the middle section where the signposting stops... you end up on a local road with no directions... best done in dry weather. Happy hiking, everyone.

A beautiful, varied and appealing route featuring interesting heritage sites and diverse landscapes. The setting is truly magnificent, as is the architecture.
All along the route you’ll see various birds (birds of prey, bee-eaters, etc.), squirrels, and the flora is still thriving in places (bellflower, eyebright, globeflower, scabious, etc.)
I recommend this walk to everyone, BUT there is one major drawback: it is best not to rely entirely on the route description, which is far too vague in places, as this risks significantly lengthening the walk. Following the route on the IGN map is a good option.

I live right next to this walking route – for the most part, it’s the standard route organised by Touffailles Town Council, though you can take a shortcut to make it shorter.
Well done!
