Binsey Wainwright from Binsey Lodge, Lake District UK

(S/E) From Binsey Lodge, enter the fellside of Binsey through the gate on the opposite side of the road (West-North-West). Follow the main path heading up the Wainwright all the way to the summit of Binsey.

(1) From the summit or top of Binsey, follow the same path all the way back to the starting position at Binsey Lodge. (S/E)

Car park : You can park at the little lay-by just down the road from Binsey Lodge in the northern Lake District UK.To walk to Binsey in Cumbria the best parking is at the layby near Binsey Lodge. Remember there is only room for a couple of cars so perhaps turn up early if you want to get this one in the bag. Especially in good weather. We parked at Over Water Car Park, which is more like a big layby as opposed to a car park.

OS map : To walk up Binsey you will need to have ordinance survey map OL4.

Conditions : The paths are good in the sense that you'll know where you are heading. However, be careful on Binsey Wainwright because after rainfall it can get a touch boggy and muddy too. Making it slippery. We went up in the low cloud and it was damp underfoot. There are some steeper sections up to the summit.

• How high is Binsey? (m/ft)

Binsey has a total height of 447m or 1467ft in the Lake District National Park. Depending on the route that you take it can be quite a stroll as opposed to a full-on walk. It comes in at 191 in height order out of the 214 Wainwrights in the Lake District. So it's a smaller Fell. But Binsey Wainwright would make a perfect introductory walk in the Lake District. Or a lovely evening stroll just as we have done several times. It may be small but Binsey is good fun to walk and gives you the bug to do more.

• What is at the summit of Binsey?

The summit of Binsey Wainwright is actually the most interesting part of the Fell in Cumbria. Not only does it offer amazing panoramic views but also because it holds a wind shelter. Not only this but for a small fell it also has a trig point and not forgetting a cairn. So if you're bagging this Wainwright on a cloudy day like us then you'll appreciate all of these. We certainly did.
