Description of the walk

Start : Dodd Wood car park, Keswick, Cumbria, (CA12 4QE) Grid ref. NY 235 281

(S/E) From the car park, pass the toilet and tea room in the direction of the Skill Beck river. Cross the river and take left to follow the yellow signed path. Continue straight on this path (around 400 m) until arriving at an intersection of paths.

(1) At the intersection of paths, take the left still following the yellow signed path. Continue straight on that path. After passing Sandbeds Gill river take the path on the right (North-East) that goes up (yellow signed path). Continue on that path until it goes down and reach an intersection.

(2) Do not follow the yellow sign indicating to turn left going down by the wood but instead take right (North). After a couple of meters take right again on a rocky path going up and exiting the wood. Pass the gate and continue straight on this path now going steadily up.

(3) Continue going up on the main path for around 600 m. On the way, leave the path on the left by the wall.

(4) Just before reaching Ling How (elevation around 330 m) take the path on the left (North-East) that goes in the direction of the Watches summit. (It is possible to take the path passing by the summit). Take the path on the right of the path going to the summit to go around Watches summit. Continue on this path until reaching a dry-stoned wall.

(5) At the dry stoned wall take left to go slightly up and follow the wall (it should be on your right-hand side). Do not pass the gate. Continue on the path (the closest to the wall) until reaching the initial path at waypoint (3). Take right to go down the path retracing your step until reaching the intersection of paths and seeing the yellow sign at waypoint (2) . Continue straight on the lower path. This path will closely follow the road (A591). Follow it always looking for the yellow signs until arriving at a small car park (around 850 m).

(6) At the small car park, cross the car park, pass the gate and go up again in the forest taking the right path (following the yellow sign). Continue straight until arriving at Skill Beck river and the car park (S/E)
