Description of the walk

Start: From the second little car park on the road to Forestry Commission office. Grid ref. NY 201 304

(S/E) Take the little path in front of the car park going into the woods. After a couple of metres, take left (North-East-East) on the path going up into the wood. Follow this large path going up through the wood. You will leave it after the 4th bend.

(1) Continue straight on the smaller path nearly in front of you (leaving the path on the right going to the summit). Continue straight until exiting the wood. Pass the gate and continue straight on the path for a little while (1.7 Km or so) until Kelswick farm.

(2) At the farm cross the main road, take the little bridge to cross the river and take directly on the little path following the side of Sale Fell. Continue straight on this path that will go up to bypass Sale Fell. Continue on this main path turning around Sale Fell until seeing a large path going down and a smaller path straight.

(3) Keep on the large path going down until reaching a gate and road. At the road take right and continue straight on the road passing Routenbeck hamlet. Just after the hamlet take the footpath on the right entering the wood. Continue straight on this footpath until seeing the car park on your left. (S/E)
