Bergisch Panoramasteig, Stage 2

The starting point for the walk is a car park for walkers in Biesfeld on Jahnstraße.

(S) We leave the car park heading north onto the Bergisch Panoramasteig, which is well signposted along the entire route, and the A2. After about 240 metres, we turn right. At the second junction, we turn right again. We keep to the right twice more and come to Neuensaaler Straße. Here, we turn right for a short distance and then immediately left onto the A3. At the second junction, we keep to the right.

(1) Now we walk straight on until we reach the country road at the end of the small hamlet of Am Dahlerberg. We cross the road and turn right onto the cycle and footpath. After about 200 m, we turn left into the woods. We follow the forest path until we come to another small road.

(2) Here, we turn right through the village of Ahlendung until we reach the country road. At the road, we turn left, then immediately left again, and then right at the next junction. We now walk along the edge of the wood for a while until the next junction, where we turn right again and wind our way uphill into the wood. At the top, we rejoin the country road and follow it to the left; at the fork, we keep left again until we reach the small hamlet of Heid.

(3) We leave the hamlet on a slight downhill slope and walk until just before the Grundermühle country road. There, we turn left onto the forest path, running parallel to the road, until the path naturally leads us back to the road. We follow the road to the left, past the Kürtener Sülz, and turn right at the bend, then immediately right again.

(4) Shortly after crossing the Olpebach, we turn left and walk alongside the stream for a while. At the next junction, we keep to the right and leave the stream behind.

(5) Here, we keep to the right, follow the path to the edge of the wood and carry on straight ahead to a dirt track which leads us away from the wood to the right. At the next junction, we turn left and then carry on straight ahead to Reudenbach Road.

(6) Here, we follow the road to the right until we come to a crossroad near the village. Then we take a few steps to the right and straight away to the left again. Now, at the next opportunity, we turn right.

(7) From here, we keep to the right for almost a kilometre until we reach a junction, where we turn left. At the next opportunity, we turn left again. We then continue straight on, keeping slightly to the left, until we reach Tüschen Road, which we follow to the left. At the crossroads, we go straight on and continue until we reach Hommericher Road.

(8) Here, we turn right. After about 350 metres, in the industrial estate, we turn left onto a forest track leading up the hill. We follow this track all the way to Ebbinghausen.

(9) In the village, we turn left and then immediately right. At the end of the village, turn right again and then immediately left. From here, continue straight ahead for about 600 metres and then turn left. Now keep going straight ahead along the path until you cross the country road and the cycle path. Then turn right twice.

(10) Follow the path through the woods until you reach the crossroads in Scheurenhof. Turn right here and, as you leave the village, turn left off the road again. At the fork in the path, keep left again and continue until you reach a cross path. Turn left here and walk past the old railway station and some old, privately-owned steam locomotives.

(11) We leave the old railway station and, after a few metres, turn right onto the cycle path. A little further on, we cross the Lindlarer Sülz and Sülztalstraße via an old stone bridge. A little further on, we leave the cycle path to the right, walking parallel to it for a while until we keep right at the next fork and move away from it. Soon we cross a dirt track and then turn right. We then come to a road, which we follow to the left for a short distance before turning right again towards the car park at the open-air museum.

(12) Here, we continue round the museum grounds until we reach Heiligenhoven Road. We just need to cross this road and the Lennefer Bach, and we’ll have reached the end of our tour. (E)

An easy walk with a few shelters and benches for a short break.

Some old Bergisch houses, steam locomotives and, at the end of the walk, the Lindlar Open-Air Museum are well worth seeing. But that’s worth a day trip in its own right.
