Circuit opposite the magnificent peak of Rochebrune with an exceptional view of the road of the Col d'Izoard. And besides, there are chamois here!

Description of the walk

The route starts from the Saint Michel chapel (S/F), park on Route des Fonts de Cervières.
Climb north by a well marked path, reaching the Alp du Pied chalets.

(1) Continue north, passing the ruins of Garnier.

(2) Continue north-east and reach the Alp Haut ruins then join the old military road.

(3) Take a right, and on the left you will find the sheepfold of Peyre Moute. Reach the sheepfold by cutting right through the snow in winter or the mountain pasture in summer. The circuit continues to the east.
Head on past the old military road, go straight and then join the path heading up to Lachau (signposted).

(4) Take this path south-east, then turn due south (5) to take you to the Aîttes all and Route des Fonds de Cervières.

(6) Turn right and return to the starting point of walk at the car park (S/F).

The walk ends with a visit to Lake Sarailles, and the customs officer’s lodge. Notably, this area is rich in military buildings (the Gondrand and Maginot forts can be visited in summer). To visit these, contact the association looking after them. Gondrand E
For geology enthusiasts a visit to the nearby Chenaillet is a must. The tour then ends with the Collet Vert and a walk down to the Roséou and Noir lakes and then on to the Bourget plain.
On the other side beneath Le Lasseron another Maginot fort is located on the left bank of the Cerveyrette, the Fort of Aîttes.

I did this route at the beginning of February on a trail that was half mud and half snow. The climb is a bit steep for the first 2 hours.
No need for snowshoes, packed but slippery path, bring walking crampons....
Beautiful panorama of the valleys.

A very nice route, but difficult to follow after the Peyre Moutte sheepfold. The descent through the woods towards the Aittes wall to get to the Fonts de Cervières road is impossible: there is no path and we had to get to the cross-country skiing car park before the Chau. That's an extra 3.5 km of road. After that, the scenery is so beautiful up there that you forget you're going back!
The weather was fine, there was little snow and we didn't meet a single person on the route...

This was a snowshoe hike in very good weather, with a fairly steep ascent and fine views.
On the way down we followed the snowshoe tracks, which did not necessarily correspond to the route, but this did not hinder our progress on the way back.

The track was very useful as the path is not marked and there were no footprints in the freshly fallen snow.

Hi, it's true that there's a very high risk of avalanche at the moment, and what's more, the weather hasn't been very pleasant over the last few days.
Your warning message is of course very welcome.
You know this message also applies to all snowshoe treks (see the avalanche at Les Orres on Thursday).

Done with my son. Beautiful route with views of the Izoard, Fonts valley and Piedmont summits.

I made a video showing the names of the summits and the atmosphere of this beautiful winter walk.
