From Briançon, follow the road towards Col d'Izoard, pass through Cervières and reach Laus de Cervières where the winter road ends. Park in the car park before Laus.
(S/E) Take the track towards the hamlet of Le Blétonnet in a south-south-easterly direction. Go around it to reach a car park.
(1) Turn right and cross the Blétonnet stream. After the bridge, leave the wide track and take the path on the left, signposted "sentier botanique" (botanical trail), and begin a short climb. Continue to the Sentier des Mules crossroads.
(2) Leave the botanical trail on your right and continue the climb by taking the Sentier des Mules trail on your left. After a few tight bends and a long traverse, you will reach the ridge of the Bois de Péméant.
(3) Head south to begin a gentle climb, walking through the woods and ignoring all paths or tracks on the right and left to reach the Col d'Zoard road.
(4) Take this road to the left and follow it to the foot of the refuge. Cut across the slope to the left to reach the Refuge Napoléon.
(5) Continue by cutting across the bends in the road to complete the ascent of the Col d'Izoard.
(6) Follow this route in reverse to return to the Laus car park (S/E).
