This hike will allow you to walk in the footsteps of Sarah Bernard and discover the famous Pointe des Poulains Lighthouse before visiting the small, typical port of Sauzon, accessible via the coastal path with its breathtaking scenery.
From the Port of Palais to Port Fouquet
After a stroll through the village of Palais, you will pass close to Fort Vauban and then follow the coastal path before returning to Palais via the interior.

The coastal path allows you to walk around the island and appreciate the beauty and variety of the landscapes. This hike is located on the north coast, sheltered from the wind, where beautiful beaches, flower-filled meadows and charming little harbours follow one another.
Poulains Lighthouse and the Apothecary’s House from Sauzon
Set off from the lovely port of Sauzon and follow the coastal path to the picture-postcard Phare des Poulains, then, via the bird sanctuary, to the Grotte de l’Apothicaire.

Belle-Île-en-Mer is the largest and most majestic of Brittany’s islands.
The coastal path allows you to walk all the way round the island and appreciate the beauty and variety of the landscapes. This walk is on the south coast (the wild coast), facing the Atlantic winds; the jagged cliffs, covered in short, colourful heathland, paint an incredible picture.

The coastal path allows us to walk all the way round the island and appreciate the beauty and variety of the landscapes. This walk is on the south coast (the ‘wild coast’), facing the Atlantic winds; the jagged cliffs, covered in sparse, colourful heathland, paint an incredible picture.

Belle-île-en-Mer est la plus grande des îles de Bretagne et la plus majestueuse.
Le sentier côtier nous permet d'en faire le tour et d'apprécier la beauté et la variété des paysages. Cette randonnée se trouve sur la côte Nord à l'abri du vent où se succèdent de belles plages, des prairies fleuries et de charmants petits ports de mouillage. Elle se termine avec un superbe panorama : la pointe des Poulains.

Belle-Île-en-Mer est la plus grande des îles de Bretagne et la plus majestueuse.
Le sentier côtier permet d'en faire le tour et d'apprécier la beauté et la variété des paysages. Cette randonnée se trouve sur la côte Sud, (côte sauvage) face aux vents de l'Atlantique ; les falaises déchiquetées couvertes d'une lande rase et colorée dessinent un incroyable tableau.

On this walk from Sauzon to Le Palais, it’s hard to get lost; simply follow the coastal path (GR®340) and, via a series of ascents and descents – which make the route quite a challenge – you’ll reach the Port du Palais (see practical information).
