Access to the island is by boat, departing from Vannes or Quiberon.
TheGR® trail is very well marked. The markings are red and yellow or red and white
(S) When you disembark at Le Palais, take Rue Jules Simon opposite, then continue straight ahead, following the port on your right, Quai Jacques le Blanc. On your right is the Vauban citadel.
(1) Take the footbridge in front of the lock keeper's house (car park above). Turn right to enter the citadel, then left and follow the red and white markings. Once you have passed the drawbridge, the coastal path is on the right. You will arrive at Kastoul Beach, where the path joins a road.
(2) Turn right towards the Taillefer semaphore. Take the coastal path on the right before the car park (itself before the semaphore) to reach Pointe de Taillefer and its fort.
(3) Turn left and continue to follow the marked coastal path. Further on, descend to reach the car park at Port Fouquet fort.
(4) Go back up opposite and turn right to return to the coast.
(5) Turn left and follow the marked coastal path. Continue along a succession of beaches and coves. Pass Port Collen Beach on your right, then Port Jean and Port Jean Beach. The path continues to Pointe de Kerzo.
(6) You will then see Sauzon harbour opposite, with its boats and colourful houses. The coastal path goes around the cove and leads to the road that goes to Le Palais on the left .
(7) Pick up the path at the end of the cove to go around it on the other side and arrive at Sauzon.
(8) Walk along Sauzon harbour on your right, towards the lighthouse, still on theGR®. After the lighthouse, continue with the harbour on your right. Once you have passed the pier, there is a section on the road before rejoining the path on the right, after Plage du Cardinal: car park on the left, as well as the Le Cardinal hotel.
(9) Pass Pointe du Cardinal and its fort and reach Porh Puce. The path continues to the right towards Bordery Beach, then arrives at a car park at the small Deuborh Beach.
(10) Continue along the path, with the sea on your right. You will arrive at Port Penhoët, a cove below. Go around a white house with a tiled roof on your left to reach the start of Pointe des Poulains. (E). There is a car park and a coastal house (check opening hours).
On your left, you will see the Villa des Cinq Parties du Monde and the Fort de Sarah Bernhardt.
