Walk from Pétavigne and the Luberon ridge trails.

A superb short hike with a wide variety of flora and fauna. Numerous signs of red foxes.

Description of the walk

Park along the access road to the Pélissier National Forest, just after the signs. There is a car park a little further down, where you can also park, but this will add a little distance and elevation to the hike.

(S/E) Walk back up the departmental road to the Col de la Mort d'Imbert. After about a hundred metres, you will see the start of the hike on your right. There is a sign for the Pétavigne walk. You can't miss it. You will soon arrive at the Carrefour des Acidulés.

(1) At a three-way junction, you will find the start of the circular route. I strongly advise you to do the hike in the direction indicated (you can do the route in reverse, but then you will start with a very significant climb). It is therefore better to start on the right, i.e. follow the track that heads west-southwest.
Take the opportunity to admire the incredible diversity of flora and fauna you will encounter along the way. There is an alternation of deciduous and coniferous trees throughout the route. And there are many signs of foxes. I caught a glimpse of one with its cubs.
Stay on the widest path (keep straight ahead on a fire access road) until you reach a crossroads where, on the right, you will see a fire water tank and, on the left, the clearly visible yellow signs for the Luberon ridge trails.

(2) Follow the small path that goes down to the left (follow the signs). After a short while, you will come across a nice cave on your left that is worth visiting. Feel free to stop, as there is no danger.

(3) Continue along the path, which climbs slightly.

(4) At the three-way junction, you have two options:
- You can turn left and go back down the path you took earlier, or turn right.
- You can turn right and continue climbing to the peaks: this is the option shown on the map and described below.

Turn right and continue straight ahead. Enjoy the superb views from the ridges, with Mont Ventoux on your left and breathtaking views of Manosque and the Durance valley on the other side.
As you descend, you will come to another fire track that leads down to the Carrefour des Acidulés. The descent to the crossroads is very steep.

(1) Turn right to return to the pass, then left to return to the starting point (S/E).

Notes

We really enjoyed this short hike. We did it in two hours with a three-year-old child. I think that for adults, it can be done in an hour and a half without too much effort.

Respect nature, leave nothing behind and do not damage anything.

Always carry water with you and, above all, wear good shoes with good grip for the final descent.

Worth a visit

Take the time to look at the diversity of flora and fauna (especially insects).
Visit the cave.
Breathtaking views.

An easy, short and well-marked hike. Numerous well-marked paths allow you to extend the hike if you wish, staying on the balcony. Note that the final descent takes place in a forest of small downy oaks: don't be disappointed if you don't get the view you expected, it's hidden among the branches!

A lovely walk in a beautiful forest, easy and short enough to do with young children. On the second part of the hike, you will come across a cave that you can easily enter and exit from the other side. The first part is mostly in the shade, then you will arrive at a crossroads with a sunny, open area that is perfect for a picnic. Be careful at this crossroads, as you need to take the path furthest to the left, almost as if you were retracing your steps.

A lovely walk this morning. We passed through a beautiful forest of pine, oak, etc. The route is superb with a few hills but very accessible. I'm a novice and I did it in 1½ hours, including stops to take photos and admire the view!

Yesterday, a colleague and I went on this hike. We really enjoyed it; it was very pleasant and the scenery was magnificent. It was especially good for getting back into shape, as it had been a long time since I had been on this kind of outing.

A great little walk to get back into shape without too much difficulty, with a pretty little cave to visit and a beautiful viewpoint.

Great route, no major technical difficulties, climbs that can be done on the bike and lots of descents on single tracks in the woods... a real treat. Thank you for the route.
