(S/E) With your back to the front of the church, take the road opposite, the Route de Romans. You will come to a bridge over the Galaure. Take the opportunity to check the water level and assess whether you can cross the ford further on. If you decide against it, refer to the other walk, which starts 100 metres away on the right bank of the river. If the water level is suitable, take the path that branches off to the left just after the bridge. Follow it along the river.
(1) It crosses a motorhome parking area and continues further on. After a while, it leads to a wider path. Continue along the river. When you reach a T-junction, turn left.
(2) You will arrive at a ford. If the water flow is too strong, do not hesitate to turn back. If the level is acceptable, cross.
(3) You will reach the D51, which you will also cross. Follow the small road as it turns left. Then, at a T-junction, turn right. The path climbs steeply. Walk along a high wall of pebbles (the cemetery) to reach the Church of Saint-Germain.
(4) In front of the pediment, there is a picnic table. Go around the church to the back, where you will find a path. On the left, it leads to the cemetery. There is a water source at the entrance. Take the path on the right. It climbs steeply. You will pass a beautiful wooden cross. When you reach a small road, continue straight ahead (there is an electricity pylon on the right-hand side of the road).
(5) Take the first small tarmac road on the right, at the buried water tower. You pass a few houses and after a long bend, you reach a hamlet (La Fayardaie) and ignore two small roads on your right. When the small road turns right, take the stony path that branches off to the left. You are now on a nice straight stretch.
(6) You will come to a fork. There is a sign (Pointe Marion - altitude 438m). Take the left fork towards Lens Lestang. Ignore the road coming from the right. Continue downhill until you reach the D532.
(7) At the stop sign (which you will observe, of course...), turn left and climb for 500m. Be careful, traffic moves fast here. Walk on the left side of the road, facing the cars. If there are several of you, walk in single file. The road makes a hairpin turn.
(8) At the next bend, just after the DDE has painted a kerb for pedestrians, take the path that climbs up to the left (there is a smudged sign). Ignore the path coming from the right. When you reach a fork (there is a wind turbine on your right), take the left branch. You will pass the "Saumoduc N°12" marker. Go past a hamlet (Les Potences) and you will reach a T-junction. Turn left.
(9) Take the first small road on the right, Impasse Reguine (there is a beautiful solitary tree). At the first fork, leave the tarmac and take the dirt track on the right (follow the markings consisting of two discs and a triangle showing the direction). At the next fork, do the same (on the right and same markings).. After passing an enclosure on your right, stay on your path and ignore what is happening on the right (continue to follow the markings consisting of two circles and a directional triangle). Go downhill and cross a wood. Ignore a path on the right. Pass a signpost marked "Saumoduc N° 6". Continue downhill.
(10) You return to the D51, which you take on the right (stay on the right-hand pavement, as there is no continuous pavement opposite). At a square, you cross to the left towards the Palais Idéal. Almost immediately, you take Rue du Palais Idéal on the right.
(11) You will pass in front of the Palais Idéal. If you feel like it, take the opportunity to visit it. Continue along the narrow street, which is lined with shops, and turn right. Cross the D51, which has become Grande Rue, and walk under a beautiful archway (Rue du Château Vieux) opposite. Walk slightly uphill and then downhill again onto Grande Rue, which you take on the right to return to your starting point (S/E).
