Description of the walk

Park on the Place de l'Église in Le Beugnon.

(S/E) Go down the alley between the church and the cemetery. Cross the road and continue straight ahead on Route des Étangs (D132). Pass the hamlet of Basse Rue and turn left onto the small road that climbs towards the communal ponds. Walk along the ponds, ignoring the path that branches off to the left, and turn left at the crossroads after the ponds. Climb up to the hamlet of La Barre and continue past the farm.

(1) At the crossroads, turn left, then 200 metres further on, turn right onto a new road.

(2) At the bend, take a path lined with vegetation on the right. At the end of the path, take the road to the left. (Old Gallo-Roman road known as the "Chemin des Chaussées")
(See section during the hike for a round trip to the Sources de Gâtine).

(3) Cross the crossroads and continue straight ahead. Join the D132 and take it carefully for about a hundred metres.

(4) Turn right onto a white path in the Bois Domanial de la Boucherie. Continue to the right along the stream and follow this path uphill to the hamlet of Mizaudrie.

(5) Turn left onto the road and then left again after 50 metres onto the small path that goes downhill.
Continue along this path, which veers left to cross the Ruisseau de la Rourie stream. (The path continues straight ahead on the IGN map, but it has disappeared).

(6) Take the hairpin path on the right that joins the original path and continue along the stream.

(7) Turn right onto the road to begin the climb (GR®364). (See the section during the hike for a detour to the village of Chicheville).
On the hill, turn left. At the hamlet of La Coudre, descend to the left.

(8) Leave the road and continue straight ahead on the path.

(9) Turn left onto the road (note the view of the village of Beugnon). After about 100 metres, take the path on the right that descends to the Ruisseau de la Fontaine au Loup. Cross the footbridge.

(10) Ignore the path that branches off to the left and continue climbing. Cross the road, Rue des Lauriers opposite, then turn right onto Rue de la Panique to reach Place de l'Église (S/E).

Yellow marked route.

Below the hamlet of Basse Rue, 50 metres away, there is a fountain and a picnic area on the banks of the Fontaine au Loup stream.

Worth a visit

  • Saint-Maurice Church (S/E)
  • the Notre-Dame-de-Lourdes cave and the Source de la Loupe spring. Take the gravel path on the left down to the Route des Étangs.
  • The valley of the Fontaine au Loup stream and the communal ponds;
  • The ancient Gallo-Roman road known as the "Chemin des Chaussées" (after the path between points (2) and (3)).
  • Les Sources de Gâtine: About a hundred metres before the crossroads (3), a path on the left leads to the springs (about 500 metres). You will discover the Beniña onda interpretation site, key to the springs, which will explain how the beneficial waves of Gâtine are created.
  • The village of Chicheville: a very old village (14th century) and a Resistance site. At the point (7), take the road (GR®364) to the left, then after 150 metres turn left, then left again at the fork towards the village. Take the street on the right and continue a little further to the right until you complete the circular route at the fork. Then, resume the route towards the point (7).

The first half of the hike is completely uninteresting, with nothing but tarmac. Fortunately, the second half is more enjoyable.

Nice little hike, quite a long walk at the start but lovely views. Given the weather that day, I didn't make any detours to see the springs. The forest paths are superb.

The first half of the hike is on roads and is not particularly interesting. From a place called "La Rouerie", there are many paths and beautiful landscapes.

Hello
I went on this very enjoyable hike on 15/08/20... Well, it got off to a bad start: there was no parking space at the church... Bad luck, because at 11am on 15/08 there was a service...Anyway, the problem was quickly solved. Le Beugnon isn't Paris, after all!
The route is very pleasant and very shady... I think it's best to avoid doing it after heavy rain because some sections can be tricky when wet...
I recommend the detour: "Les sources de la Gâtine" (The sources of the Gâtine).
As for the village of Chicheville... The detour isn't significant, but the sign relating to the Resistance is worth seeing....

HIKE DONE IN BEAUTIFUL FEBRUARY WEATHER.
A NICE ROUTE, WHICH, DESPITE THE WEATHER IN THE PREVIOUS DAYS, WAS MADE ON PATHWAYS THAT WERE BARELY WET. A LITTLE TOO MUCH TAR FOR OUR TASTE.

A very pleasant discovery of the region. A bit too much tarmac road at the beginning, but beautiful shaded paths afterwards. We will do this hike again.
