I suggest you take a tour of Saint-Apollinaire along the dirt tracks, passing by the Fort de la Redoute, the town’s various housing estates and the Bois Guillaume business park.

Description of the walk

Park your car on Rue René Cassin.

(S/E) Follow Rue René Cassin north-west until you reach Rue des Longènes at the roundabout (junction with the N274).

(1) At the roundabout, turn right onto Rue des Longènes, passing in front of the hotel. Then follow the path that starts alongside the housing estate

(2) Follow the path along the bypass heading north until you reach another roundabout.

(3) Go round the Fort de la Redoute on the left. Then head east to join the tarmac road.

(4) Follow it for about three hundred metres, passing under a power line.

(5) Head south towards the Val Sully neighbourhood along the unpaved track, then take the track on the left running alongside a ditch to reach the Bois Guillaume industrial estate.

(6) Leave this area via the tarmac road, then cross the D70 and walk alongside the factory to reach the track running alongside the ring road.

(7) Continue along this track until you reach the roundabout on the D125d. At the roundabout, a track begins on the right.

(8) Take it northwards, towards Tabourot; the path turns sharply left, follows a ditch for about a hundred metres and climbs alongside a sports ground. There, the path is tarmac and leads out near Pré Thomas Park. Enter the park (there’s a short fitness trail if you’re not too tired), cross through it and exit to the right of the blocks of flats, towards the neighbourhood’s small shops. Turn left and then immediately right onto Rue de Mirande.

(9) After about 100 metres, turn left onto a path running alongside the communal gardens. This path joins Rue Albert Schweizer, which leads into Rue René Cassin a few metres from your car (S/E).

To start with, half an hour on top of the ring road embankment, with a deafening noise. We reached the redoubt – which the hiking guide doesn’t even mention and advises avoiding on the route – but we went there anyway, and it’s the only highlight of this route. As we began the return leg of the circular route, the route took us right round the commercial waste disposal site, with its huge lorries, noise and dust. Basically, you have a constant view of the industrial estate. I can’t understand how anyone could recommend a walk like this??? BEST AVOIDED, especially as you can’t take a dog or children along, because there are so many road crossings.

Not bad – this route takes you round Saint-Apollinaire along nature trails. Long enough for keen walkers (I completed the circular route in 1 hour 10 minutes) – it’s a shame the bypass is so prevalent in this area.

Thank you for your feedback. What do you mean by ‘not very well signposted’? Is it the signage on site? Or, as far as we’re concerned, is it the route description that needs to be made even more detailed? If you have any information you’d like to share with us, we’d be delighted to receive it.
Kind regards
