Starting point: in the bend at the entrance to Luemschwiller, stop in the car park in front of the community hall.
(S/E) To the left of the community hall, take the marked street (blue rectangle, yellow cross and ring, red ring) that passes in front of house No. 6. It continues along a remarkable sunken path, enclosed between two steep slopes that can reach 3 to 3.50 metres in height. Continue straight ahead, following the markings to the forest.
(1) At the large crossroads, follow the sign for "chemins circulaires d'Illfurth" (Illfurth circular paths) (yellow and red ring). Descend to the crossroads accessible by car.
(2) Continue straight ahead towards the German military cemetery (red diamond). Further on, ignore the path that climbs to the left. Continue straight ahead, then turn right at the signpost and cross an old quarry (blue ring) before arriving at the cemetery.
(3) Climb towards the central eagle statue until you reach the fence, then exit and close the gate behind you.
On the cross path, turn left towards Saint-Brice Chapel (Blue ring). Before the quarry, climb to the right towards Britzgyberg and its chapel (Blue ring, Red diamond).
(4) Signs provide information about this chapel and the Celtic site of Britzgyberg. Continue along the marked path (blue ring and red diamond). After 150 metres, the path forms a hump (blue ring and red diamond).
(5) Cross a 2 m high and 8 to 10 m wide earthen embankment (vallum). Formerly topped by a palisade and preceded by a ditch, it defended the inhabited plateau towards the summit of Britzgyberg. 250 m after leaving the forest, pass a geodetic marker, a reference point for geographers and cartographers. It was installed in 1828 by engineers from the General Staff, at an altitude of 390 m.
(6) At the crossroads with a Club Vosgien sign, continue to the right towards the large cannon and, after the second bend, at the signpost, descend towards Zillisheim (red diamond). At the bottom of the hill, turn left and follow the same signs (red diamond, yellow ring).
(7) At the entrance to the forest, near a shelter, continue to the right towards Luemschwiller (yellow ring). After walking for two kilometres, you will arrive at the Vierge du Paulrath, located at a crossroads.
(8) Turn right and continue towards Luemschwiller (yellow ring and cross). Once in the village, continue straight ahead, following the markings (yellow cross and ring).
(9) At the crossroads, note the house at No. 1 on the corner. It has well-preserved outbuildings and a niche with an image on the façade. Turn right towards the small building (No. 2) belonging to the inter-municipal drinking water supply syndicate. This is the former Wachthus (guardhouse).
Turn left at the first street, Rue de l'Ecole, go up to the fountain (1896) and continue right towards the school-town hall and the church. This street has a beautiful collection of Renaissance houses. Continue to the church.
Go down to the right along Rue de l'Église. At the fountain, turn left and return to the starting point (S/E).
Start with a gentle climb, then:
